Chapter 148 Family Time
On the day Caroline was discharged from the hospital, Brandon showed up with Kendra.

With Brandon being friendly and Kendra around, Caroline and Brianna didn’t give him the cold shoulder.
Mitch and Vickie did their best to make Brandon and Kendra feel welcome, and the whole atmosphere was warm and harmonious.
Back at the Harper family home, Brianna and Vickie were busy helping out in the kitchen, while Mitch and Brandon talked business out in the yard. Meanwhile, Kendra was in the living room, chatting with Caroline.
Kendra was sharp and charming, always coming up with something that made Caroline laugh out loud every now and then.
Vickie noticed and winked at Brianna, hinting for her to take a look at the heartwarming scene.
“Kendra’s so smart. Have you ever thought about having another one?” Vickie asked.
It had been almost a year since Brianna’s last miscarriage, and her body was just about fully recovered now.
When she heard that, Brianna felt like she’d been bitten by a snake. Her whole body tensed up, and she shook
her head hard.
“No way, I’m done!” she said.
‘Having another kid with Brandon? I’d have to be out of my mind,’ Brianna thought to herself.
‘Honestly, being single just felt so much better, Brianna thought.
‘Once my career’s settled, I can spend my free time on hobbies. That’s way better than having another kid with that bastard,’ she mused.
‘When I’m old, I’ll travel the world if I can. If not, I’ll find a cozy retirement home, plant some flowers, soak up the sun, and enjoy myself. Isn’t that the dream?’ Brianna smiled to herself.
Out in the yard, Brandon and Mitch were sipping tea, chatting about the stock market.
Brandon’s brow was furrowed, his gaze distant. Clearly, something was weighing on his mind.
Mitch caught on, but acted like he didn’t notice.
After chatting for a while, Brandon finally opened up to Mitch and said, “Mitch, has Brianna told asking for a divorce again?”

Mitch was taken aback, his mouth slightly open. After a brief pause, he replied, “No, she hasn’t. What’s it about
this time?”
Mitch really didn’t want Brianna to get divorced, not because he cared about the Levy family’s money, but because he honestly believed Brandon truly cared about his family.

“Maybe it’s because of Allison. She’s an old classmate of mine, and now she’s the chief legal counsel for our group,” Brandon explained, quickly adding, “She’s just holding the title for a while, nothing permanent.”
anyone outside Brandon rarely let his emotions show, and he never really talked about his private life with the family. But after Brianna brought up divorce, he felt this sudden panic, like she might actually walk away for good. That’s what made him finally confide in Mitch.
“I know about your classmate,” Mitch said, frowning and nodding. He was pretty much getting the gist. “Brianna told me Allison helped you out of a tight spot last time.”
Brandon’s voice grew a little tense. “Mitch, divorce has never crossed my mind, and I’ve never betrayed my family. But sometimes, there are things I just can’t avoid.”
He let out a sigh. “But Brianna just doesn’t get me.”
Brandon looked genuinely frustrated and helpless.
Mitch felt torn. He hated seeing Brianna in pain, but he didn’t want to see the younger generation go through a divorce either. He couldn’t help but feel at a loss.
“Family drama is never easy to sort out, not even for a judge,” Mitch sighed. “I’ll sit down and talk with her.”
“But Brandon, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you for a long time,” Mitch said, his voice earnest.
“You know Brianna’s situation. Her father, Whitney, was never reliable, and he never really gave her much fatherly love. Brianna grew up lacking a sense of security,” Mitch explained.
“I trust you with her, Brandon. But marriage is about mutual support, tolerance, and understanding. If things aren’t equal and only one person is doing all the compromising, eventually, anyone would get tired,” Mitch said.
Brandon nodded, keeping a calm face, but inside, his heart was in turmoil. ‘I never thought I’d feel this way,’ he admitted to himself.
New worries he’d never even considered before were beginning to take shape in his mind.
Just as he was lost in thought, Vickie called them in for dinner.
After dinner, Kendra begged her mom to go home with them, and Brianna didn’t refuse.
On the way back, Kendra spoke to Brianna in a careful, hesitant tone.
“Mom, have you been really busy lately? It’s been so long since you spent time with me,” Kendra said in a timid voice.
Brianna felt a pang of guilt.
“I’m sorry, sweetie. Once I get through this busy period, I’ll make sure to spend some quality time with you, okay?” Brianna said softly.
ded her eyes bright and hopeful.

“Will you and Dad take me camping once you’re not so busy?” Kendra asked, her voice full of hope.
Brianna glanced at Brandon and murmured, “Okay.”
“My friend went camping, and all the leaves on the mountain turned yellow. It looked so beautiful,” Kendra said, already picturing her parents going with her.
“You want to go?” Brianna’s brow furrowed as she asked. “Maybe Dad can take you first. I have to go away for work for a few days, and by the time I get back, the leaves will probably be gone.”
Kendra’s excitement faded. “But all the other kids get to go with both their parents.”
Brianna felt a pang in her chest.
She remembered how she used to wish her own parents would take her places, too.
“Why don’t we take a few days off and go with you to Port City for your business trip?” Brandon suggested.
“Awesome!” Kendra cheered, throwing her hands up. “I want to go to Port City with Mom!”
Brianna’s expression stayed icy, and she shut them down without a hint of warmth. “No. Kendra has school. Stop messing around.” ‘I can’t let her skip class just for a trip,’ Brianna thought, feeling a bit annoyed.
“It’s just a few days, it won’t make a difference,” Brandon said.
Just as Brianna was about to say no, Kendra threw her arms around her neck, her voice sweet as honey. “Mom, please take me with you. I really, really want to go with you.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of Kendra. It won’t get in the way of your work,” Brandon said, a smile tugging at the corners of his eyes.
Seeing the pleading look in Kendra’s eyes, Brianna just couldn’t bring herself to say no.
She let out a soft sigh and nodded.
When they got home. Pri
