Chapter 154 Venomous Beauty
When Kane woke up, sunlight was streaming through the window, but the hospital room was so quiet that th only sound was the steady drip of the IV.
Brandon had gone to the police station to help with the investigation, leaving Brianna alone by Kane’s bedside.
Her eyes were bloodshot, like she hadn’t slept a wink all night, but she still managed a smile for him. You’re awake? Are you hurting anywhere?”
Kane’s lips were pale, but he still managed a weak smile. “I’m fine. Have you…been up all night?”
Brianna didn’t answer. She just reached out and pressed the nurse call button.
Her fingers trembled a little, betraying how scared she still felt.
As they waited for the nurse, Brianna said quietly, “I called Ms. Moore. She’ll be here this afternoon.
Kane didn’t respond to what she’d said, his gaze locked onto her worn-out face. “Did it scare you?”
That quiet question landed in Brianna’s chest like a punch.
She shook her head. “No.”
“Thanks,” Brianna muttered, barely able to get the word out. She wasn’t good at talking, and that was all she could say, over and over.
Kane watched her, his voice barely audible. “As long as you’re alright, that’s enough for me.”
The medical staff pushed the door open, and Brianna moved aside to stand by the curtain.
The white coats blocked her view, but she could still hear the doctor say, “His condition is stable. He needs to
rest.”
Brianna let out a quiet sigh of relief, only then realizing her palms were slick with sweat.
At noon, Brandon came back with takeout. The aroma of food mixed with the sharp scent of disinfectant. making the whole place feel strangely off.
Brianna had something weighing on her mind, so she pulled Brandon out of the room.
“How are they?” she asked.
Brianna was referring to Darcy and Reese.
Brandon leaned against the wall, his voice low. “Once the paperwork’s done here in Port City, Darcy will be transferred back to Klamdiff. With all the charges stacked up, the lawyer says it’ll be either life in prison or the death penalty with a reprieve.”

Brianna finally let out the breath she’d been holding for so long. After all these years of being suffocated by resentment, it was finally coming to an end.
Brandon paused, then continued, “Reese doesn’t have any prior convictions, so she’ll be sentenced here in Port City. Attempted kidnapping and extortion. Five to ten years.”
‘Five to ten years?’ Brianna thought, feeling a wave of disappointment.
Brianna let out a slow, heavy breath. After all the terror Darcy went through, Reese’s punishment felt like barely a slap on the wrist.
She looked up, her eyes cold as frost. “She’s getting off way too easy.”
Brianna left for the hotel, her mind still troubled by thoughts of Darcy, while Brandon stayed behind to look
after Kane.
After making sure Darcy was alright, booking a flight for the next day, and leaving Gabrielle and her child in Clair’s care, Brianna returned to the hospital. Night had already fallen, and the VIP floor was eerily quiet, like someone had pressed the mute button. The only thing breaking the silence was the cold, pale ceiling light at the end of the corridor.
Brianna walked softly, but stopped abruptly just two or three meters from the door.
The door wasn’t fully closed, and through the crack, she could see two overlapping shadows. Their voices were low, but so sharp they felt like shards of glass scraping at her ears.
“So you’re telling me you’re done with the game?” The woman’s voice was cool and crisp, carrying that usual condescending tone.
It was Allison.
“Just for a woman?” Allison asked, her disbelief obvious.
“Yeah, just for a woman,” Kane drawled, his words like a drawn knife, flashing with that familiar careless chill.
Brianna’s breath hitched, and without thinking, her back pressed against the wall.
Instinctively, she felt their conversation had something to do with her.
There was a brief silence inside, then Allison let out a cold laugh, anger bubbling up. “Kane, I don’t have time for your sentimental games. You’d better keep playing by the rules, or…”
“Or what?” Kane replied, his voice low with a hint of a smile.
“Or I won’t hesitate to come after you myself,” Allison said, each word sharp as an ice pick. “I mean what I say.”
Kane let out a low, drawn-out chuckle. “You really are a venomous beauty.”
Just as Brianna was about to lean in for more, the elevator’s “ding” shattered the silence.
Brandon stepped out of the elevator doors, and as he looked up, he spotted her standing against the wall. A

flicker of surprise crossed his eyes.
Brianna quietly stepped forward to meet him.
“You’re back?” Brandon whispered, as if afraid to break the silence of the night.

“Yeah,” Brianna replied, her gaze drifting to the takeout bag in his hand. “Did you grab some food downstairs?”
Brandon lifted the bag as an answer, his brow furrowed and his tone a bit stiff. “I thought you were at the hotel with Kendra.”
“I’ve left Kendra with Clair. Her flight to Klamdiff is tomorrow morning,” Brianna said, frowning, anxious for her daughter to get out of here as soon as possible.
“And you?” Brandon’s voice dropped even lower, simmering with restrained anger. “You’re not leaving?”
Kane had already taken a knife for her, and Brandon was still seething about it. Now, with Brianna insisting on staying, that uneasy feeling in his chest surged up, burning hot in his throat.
“I’ve got things covered here,” Brandon said, stepping forward so his back blocked the doorway, a silent wall between her and the room. “You should head back.”
Seeing his expression, Brianna could tell that Brandon’s odd sense of rivalry was flaring up again-jealous about something, though who knew what this time.
“I’ve still got a few things to sort out. I’ll leave in a couple of days,” Brianna replied, her tone calm.
The conversation she’d overheard earlier had only made her more curious. Now she had even more reason to stick around and see what was really going on.
Just as Brandon was about to say something, the door swung open.
Allison strutted out in her high heels, her dress fluttering with each step. Her gaze went straight to Brandon, her voice turning sweet and gentle. “Brandon, you’re back?”
Catching sight of Brianna in her peripheral vision, her smile disappeared in a flash, her tone turning cold and distant. “Oh, Ms. Meyers, you’re here too?”
It was like the main wife catching the mistress red-handed-a catfight vibe, sparks flying everywhere.
Brianna calmly tucked a stray lock behind her ear. “Ms. Moore, you’re here?”
But inside, she sneered. ‘She borrows my jewelry, clings to my husband at parties, and now waltzes right into my hospital room, acting like she’s the real deal?’
