Chapter 155 Kane’s Love Confession
As soon as Allison arrived in Port City, she and Brandon dove headfirst into the case, barely sparing a though for the hospital.
This time, Brianna was determined to wipe out every trace, making sure her enemies would never get a second chance.
The case in Port City wasn’t complicated, and the process moved quickly. Darcy was soon handcuffed and taken back to Klamdiff.
Brianna had already lined up a PR firm, and the news blanketed the internet overnight.
The former “innocent girl” was branded a “murderer” in a single night. The “real-life black swan” rocketed to the top of the trending charts, with hashtags dominating the feeds. No one could stop the buzz.
It wasn’t until everything had finally settled down that Brianna managed to squeeze in a visit to the hospital.
Only Kane and his assistant were in the room.
She set the flowers at the foot of the bed, her lips curving into a faint smile. “Allison isn’t here?”
Kane shot a glance at the bouquet of white lilies, his brow creasing just a bit. In a flat tone, he said, “What made you think to bring me flowers?”
He guessed she was probably here to say goodbye.
“Everything’s pretty much wrapped up. I’m heading back,” Brianna said, pulling up a chair and sitting down. “Once you’re out of here, I’ll make sure to thank you properly.”
She’d already checked with the doctor. His wound was healing up nicely, and all he needed now was some
rest.
“Oh,” Kane said, dropping his gaze to hide the flicker of disappointment. He let out a half-joking, half-serious snort. “I thought you’d stick around and play nurse until I was all better.”
“With Allison keeping watch, I wouldn’t dare steal her job,” Brianna said with a laugh. “Once you’re back in top form, I’ll treat you to a big meal.”
Kane let out a cold, mocking laugh. “Her? If she doesn’t take advantage of me while I’m down and finish me off, I’ll be counting my blessings.”
“Sounds like you two are a real love-hate couple,” Brianna teased, propping her chin on her hand. “Honestly, all that banter is actually pretty cute.”
Kane didn’t answer right away. After a moment, he dropped the playful act, his voice low and steady. “Allison and I-it’s not like that.”
He looked up, locking eyes with her. His gaze was deep and unreadable, like a dark well. She tried to read him, but his eyes gave nothing away.

Brianna’s fingers froze, feeling like she’d accidentally peeked at something private. Her ears grew hot, so she pretended to fix her hair, scrambling for words.
Kane’s Adam’s apple bobbed like he’d finally managed to swallow a weight that had been stuck in his throat.
He let out a long breath, then gave his assistant a meaningful glance.
The door closed softly, and the room was filled with nothing but the sound of their own heartbeats.
He sat up, gripping the edge of the bed, his back straight as a board. His voice was barely above a whisper. “There are some things I need to say. If I don’t say them now, it’ll be too late.”
He paused for a moment, his voice gentle, almost shy. “Don’t be scared. I won’t scare you.”
Brianna’s lips curled into a smile, but inwardly, she let out a dry laugh. ‘He really does look like he’s about to confess or something’
Brianna nodded. “Go ahead.”
Brianna had always suspected Kane and Allison were hiding something, so she was eager to see what kind of new script he’d spin this time.
Kane looked conflicted, opening his mouth a few times but always stopping short, as if he was struggling to find the right words.
“At first, I just thought you were eye candy, a trophy on Brandon Levy’s arm, a songbird in a golden cage,” he said, a wry smile tugging at his lips.
He gave a self-deprecating smirk. “But the more I got to know you, the more I realized you’re someone I can’t help but respect and like.”
He looked up, and his gaze was so intense it made her ears turn red.
“You’re full of life, brave and clever… Honestly, your beauty is the least interesting thing about you,” he said.
As the words left his mouth, it was like all the strength drained out of him. He finished quietly, “I think I’ve fallen for you, the kind you can’t cure.”
The IV pump’s rhythmic beeping filled the silence, as if keeping time for the sudden hush.
Brianna’s lashes fluttered, like butterfly wings stirred by the wind.
She’d run through every possibility-trading favors, teaming up for a scheme, maybe even him fishing for info for Allison-but confessing? That option never even crossed her mind.
So, almost instinctively, she tossed the question back, her voice soft, like she was probing for hidden danger. “Did you forget I’m married, Kane?”
“I haven’t forgotten,” Kane said with a wry smile, his fingers tracing the edge of the blanket. “And I know you’re planning to get a divorce.”

He looked up, his eyes so deep it felt like he could pull her right in. “I know that if I don’t say this today, I’ll never have the chance again.”
Brianna dropped her gaze, the heat at her ears spreading all the way to her chest.
‘How does he know I’m getting a divorce? Did Brandon tell Allison?’ she wondered.
After a moment, Brianna let out a soft laugh, tinged with sharp self-mockery. “Do men really think that just saying ‘I love you’ will throw a woman’s world into chaos and make her surrender without a fight?”
“It’s not surrender,” Kane replied, his voice low and hoarse, but every word was clear. “It’s reinforcement. You’re out there on the front lines, fighting and getting hurt. I want to be the one who shields you from the bullets.”
Brianna gave a wry smile.
She caught a glimpse of the bandage peeking out from under his collar, and the doctor’s words echoed in her mind: “If that cut had been just two centimeters deeper, it would’ve hit the aorta.” A sharp pain stabbed at her chest.
So she reached out, pressed her fingertips to his shoulder, and gently pushed him back onto the pillow. “Save your life first, then we can talk about love.”
She paused, then shot back with her usual sarcasm, “That trick might work on some lovestruck teenager, but it’s not gonna fly with me.”
Kane let out a muffled grunt as she pushed him, but instead of getting annoyed, he just chuckled.
He reached out with his free hand, curling his pinky in a silly, playful pinky promise.
“So, when I get out, will you let me audition for the job? Three-month trial. If I don’t make the cut, you can dump me anytime,” he said.
Brianna batted his hand aside with a light wave.
“Keep it serious,” Brianna said quietly, then paused before asking, “Did Allison tell you I’m getting a divorce from Brandon Levy?”
Kane pouted, clearly annoyed that she’d killed the mood. He grumbled, “Don’t bring him up now. You’re spoiling the moment.”
Brianna stared at him for a couple of seconds. “I don’t like people treating my marriage like some kind of conversation starter.”
She didn’t believe Kane for a second. Inside, she scoffed coldly. ‘Allison’s using Brandon to make connections, Kane’s using me to get what he wants. Maybe the whole board was set up ages ago, just waiting for me to fall right into their plan.’
‘Alright, if they want to play, I’ll see it through to the end,’ she thought.
Kane caught the hint of chill in her gaze, and his voice unconsciously dropped lower. “I wish you’d cut things
