Chapter 38
After work, Brianna stayed behind. She’d spent the whole day wrestling with her thoughts before finally making up her
mind. After the jewelry competition awards ceremony, she would end the pregnancy.
Tonight, she was going to talk to Brandon
Not long after, Brandon called to say he had arrived downstairs at the company.
Brianna headed downstairs.
When he saw her, Brandon stepped out and opened the car door for her like a gentleman.
Brianna gave him a look. ‘What’s up with him now?‘ she wondered.
‘First he was pissed off this morning, now he’s being all attentive. What’s his deal? Brianna thought.
“Thanks,” Brianna said, nodding politely.
Brandon got in and told the driver to head back to the Levy family estate.
Brianna looked surprised. “We’re going to Grandma’s place?”
“Yeah. Grandma invited us for dinner. She probably let Mom and everyone else know,” Brandon replied.
Brianna’s brows knitted in displeasure.
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle it,” Brandon said.
He figured she was worried the family would pressure her to stay home until the baby was born.
Brianna wasn’t in the mood to talk, so she just looked out the window.
After a bit, she couldn’t help but ask, “Where’s Kendra?”
Brandon was on his tablet, not even bothering to look up. “My assistant went to get her.”
Brianna was about to say something, but swallowed her words at the last second.
She wasn’t responsible for it anymore, so there was no need to interfere with how he handled things.
After a moment of silence, Brandon passed her the tablet. “Last time I said I’d get you a new car. I checked out a few options, and this one’s perfect for you. Take a look.”
Brianna took the tablet, felt a twinge of reluctance, and her brows furrowed without thinking.
Brianna asked, “A Continental GT?”
“It’s a coupe, not too big, and the white looks really clean. It suits you,” Brandon said, his voice cool and distant.
Brianna pursed her lips, clearly not buying it.
“A coupe doesn’t really work for me right now,” Brianna replied, her tone indifferent.
Since she was building her own business, something more solid and dependable would make more sense for her.

randon looked diule frustrated, then chuckled. “Totally slipped my mind. A coupe can’t even fit a kid’s car seat.
Brianna just rolled her eyes, too annoyed to even respond.
Brandon, not waiting for her input, took the tablet back, tapped around, picked out another option, and handed it over again with a casual gesture.
“Flying Spur or Bentayga–do either of these catch your eye?” Brandon said, almost like he was offering her a menu.
Brianna scrolled through the tablet with a detached air, feeling stifled, a duli frustration simmering inside her.
Brandon either didn’t notice her mood, or just didn’t give a damn.
“If you’re driving yourself, the Bentayga handles better. If you want something more business–like, go for the Flying Spur and hire a driver,” Brandon explained.
Brianna glanced at the tablet, sounding offhand. “Bentayga, I guess.”
She wanted that sense of control. This time, she was taking the wheel in her own life.
Brandon took out his phone and called his assistant to place the order.
The whole process was cold and impersonal, like he was just going through the motions.
After hanging up, he didn’t even turn to face her. “You’ll get the car by mid–next month.”
Once again, the conversation died, leaving the car in silence.
Before long, they arrived at the Levy family estate.
Gabrielle was already there. When she saw Brianna, she actually smiled, which was a rare sight.
“Hi, Gabrielle,” Brianna greeted her.
“You’re here! Are you hungry? We’ll start dinner as soon as Margo gets back,” Gabrielle greeted Brianna with a warm smile.
Brianna felt a bit unsettled, but forced a smile and nodded. When she saw Josefina in the backyard playing with Kendra and the other kids, she walked straight over, leaving Brandon and his mother inside.
Kendra beamed when she spotted Brianna, and was about to rush over, but then she suddenly remembered what happened that morning. Her smile faded, and she stayed rooted to the spot, hesitant. \

Brianna walked up with a warm smile, chatted briefly with Josefina, then went over to Kendra and gently took her hand.
“Kendra, did you finish your homework?” Brianna asked, her tone full of motherly warmth.
After all, Kendra was her own flesh and blood. Brianna wasn’t about to stop loving her daughter–no matter what, she’d always give Kendra the love she deserved.
“Mom,” Kendra whispered, sounding hurt as she kept her head down, avoiding her mother’s gaze.
Brianna smiled fondly and gently ruffled her hair. “Go play, sweetheart.”
Kendra lingered, clearly upset, standing there as if something was weighing on her mind.
Brianna watched her daughter with gentle patience, waiting for her to speak.

After a unument, Kendra finally found the courage to speak, her voice trembling. “Mom, I’m sorry”
As Kendra spoke, her eyes brimmed with tears, not from guilt, but from feeling utterly humiliated.
Brianna could tell right away Brandon must’ve made her say sorry.
Brianna pulled Kendra over to the side, took a seat, and settled her daughter right onto her lap.
“Kendra, you never have to say sorry to me, okay?” Brianna said softly, guilt tugging at her heart. Compared to her own mother, she felt like she was falling short as a mom.
“I know you’re growing up and have your own thoughts now. I should respect that more. I haven’t been doing a good job of that,” Brianna continued, her voice gentle.
“All I want is for you to be healthy and happy, that’s all that matters to me,” Brianna said softly.
As Kendra listened, all the longing for her mom welled up inside her, making her feel even more upset. She wrapped her arms around Brianna’s neck and leaned on her shoulder, quietly crying.
Brianna gently comforted Kendra, holding her close.
Brianna really wanted to talk to Kendra about having another child. After being the only kid for so many years, Kendra might start feeling like she wasn’t Mom’s favorite anymore.
But since Brianna had already decided to end the pregnancy, holding Kendra in her arms just made her feel even more guilty about the unborn baby. In the end, she just couldn’t bring herself to say anything.
Just then, Margo arrived, and Gabrielle came over to call everyone to dinner. When she saw Brianna and Kendra together, her voice sounded a bit flustered.
“Kendra, you should know better at your age. Your mom’s pregnant. Don’t let her hold you, be careful, you might squish your baby brother,” Gabrielle said, sounding worried.
Brianna frowned. ‘Wait, when did it become a boy?‘ she wondered.
Brianna held back, gently set Kendra down, and responded to Gabrielle with a calm, neutral tone.
Taking Kendra’s hand as they walked inside, Brianna spoke softly, “Kendra, I know you’re feeling hurt. As for the baby we’ll talk about it when the time is right, okay?”
Kendra nodded quietly.
Г
In her heart, Kendra was starting to sense that her mom’s love wasn’t the same as before, no longer unconditional. It felt like Mom would only stay close if she acted sweet and sensible.
At the dinner table, the whole family was enjoying their meal. The older folks were all smiles, and everyone seemed to be getting along.
But Margo sat there with a dark expression, her eyes practically dripping with resentment and spite ever since she learned Brianna was pregnant.
“Congrats, Brianna! And Brandon, congrats on becoming a dad again.” Margo said, raising her wine glass with a forced smile.
With her water glass in hand, Brianna forced a strained smile.
