Too Late For Regrets, Mr. Billionaire (Brianna Meyers and Brandon Levy) novel Chapter 57

Chapter 57

Chapter 57

The next day, Patsy didn’t show up at the hospital.

She drove back to the scenic area alone, hoping to find some clues.

She felt that Darcy was just way too suspicious.

But when she got to the scenic area, Patsy was stunned.

It had snowed all night, blanketing everything in white.

She headed to the spot where Brianna was rescued yesterday.

That was where all the chaos happened.

But now, every sign of what happened was wiped clean by the snow.

Patsy felt a wave of despair wash over her.

She looked up from the spot where Brianna was found, trying to estimate the route Brianna had fallen.

Slowly, she began climbing up the snowy mountain.

After more than forty minutes of climbing, Patsy reached the viewing platform.

She finally smiled.

As her smile lingered, tears slipped down her cheeks before she even realized it.

‘This must be the place,’ she thought to herself.

Patsy stood atop the viewing platform, looking out at the landscape.

All she saw was a single winding path.

Patsy examined the platform closely, but it was all buried under a thick layer of snow.

Every trace of what happened was completely covered up.

Despair and frustration welled up inside Patsy.

‘Is there no justice in this world?’ she thought.

Patsy was seething with frustration, unable to let it go. But she stubbornly refused to give up.

She followed the winding path back toward the scenic area.

She realized this was the exact route Darcy had taken yesterday when she hurried back.

Patsy headed straight for the front desk again.

On behalf of Brandon, she asked them to pull all the surveillance footage from yesterday, from the morning until after the incident.

She grabbed a copy and left.

Then she instructed the manager that if anyone came asking for the surveillance footage, he should let Brandon know right away.

Three days passed.

Brianna still had no signs of waking up.

She remained in the ICU.

Her family kept watch over her day and night, hoping against hope for a miracle.

Before they knew it, New Year’s Day was here.

Brianna’s injuries cast a shadow over New Year’s Eve.

Kendra’s injuries were almost healed.

After all, she was a kid, and kids healed fast and were active.

Brandon dropped by to check on her.

Kendra snuggled up to Brandon, acting all sweet.

“Daddy, will you take me to see the fireworks tonight? Aunt Darcy said there’s a fireworks show at the South Gate.”

Brandon frowned.

“No, you’re still not better yet. And your mom can’t go too,” he said.

Ever since the accident, everyone had just told Kendra that Brianna was hurt too.

But nobody ever told her how serious it really was.

When Brandon mentioned Brianna, Kendra’s face fell.

‘I hurt so much. Aunt Darcy often comes to keep me company. Yet, Mom never shows up, not even once,’ Kendra thought.

Kendra pouted.

“Why can’t Mom go? She never comes to see me at all. Why does she always have to be such a downer?” she complained.

Brandon reached out and ruffled her hair.

“Your mom is hurt too. When she gets better, I’ll make sure you and your mom get to see the biggest fireworks show ever,” he promised.

Kendra pouted. “Aunt Darcy’s better than Mom.”

Brandon just smiled. He ruffled her hair again.

He didn’t take it to heart, thinking that kids just said whatever popped into their heads.

“Daddy, when I get better, can Aunt Darcy come live with us? I want to live with Aunt Darcy,” Kendra said.

Brandon answered her patiently, “No.”

“Why not? Aunt Darcy likes you, and you like her, too. I also like Aunt Darcy. So why can’t Aunt Darcy live with us?” Kendra pressed.

Kendra had her own logic about things.

“It’s because Aunt Darcy is just a relative, not really family. Only family gets to live together.”

“Then why can’t Aunt Darcy be our family?” Kendra asked.

Brandon couldn’t help but chuckle at her logic.

These past few days, only Kendra’s pure innocence had let him truly relax for a moment.

Brandon thought to himself, ‘With such a sweet girl, Brianna wouldn’t bear to leave, would she?’

But deep down, Brandon felt a pang of melancholy.

“Daddy, Aunt Darcy likes you. Will you marry Aunt Darcy?” Kendra probed.

Brandon just took it as innocent child’s talk.

He tweaked her little nose.

“No,” he said.

“Why?” Kendra furrowed her brows as she raised her voice. “You guys like each other. So why can’t you get married?”

Brandon patiently explained, “Liking someone isn’t enough to marry them. Only love leads to marriage.”

Kendra looked puzzled, not quite sure she understood.

“So you don’t love Aunt Darcy?” Kendra pressed.

“Aunt Darcy is your mom’s sister. That’s why I like her. But that’s not the same as love,” Brandon explained.

Kendra tilted her head.

“Then do you love Mom, Daddy?” she asked.

Brandon froze for a moment.

He was surprised that he actually said that out loud.

‘Love leads to marriage? Do I actually love Brianna?’ Brandon wondered.

He only married Brianna because of that incident.

She ended up pregnant, so he had to step up and take responsibility.

Besides, she was attractive, smart, and came from a prestigious family. She was someone he could show off to others. That was why he chose to marry her.

For Brandon, his wife was really just like another trophy behind glass. As long as she was dutiful and played her part, he’d always treat her right.

Over the years, he’d indeed kept things strictly business between them.

He always showed her respect. He made sure her dignity as his wife was never compromised.

When it came to her emotional needs, he never thought those were necessary.

To him, marriage was just a business deal.

That was what he had always believed, too.

But these past six months, after Brianna walked out on him, he finally felt a bit unsettled.

‘Could it be that I love her?’ Brandon thought.

Brandon gave a wry, self-deprecating smile.

“Do you love Mom?” Kendra pressed.

“Of course I do. If I didn’t, how would you ever have been born? You’re the proof of your mom and dad’s love,” Brandon replied firmly.

But honestly, even he wasn’t that certain. He was just trying to reassure Kendra.

Outside the hospital room, Darcy’s nails dug into her palms.

Her features contorted, and her eyes were filled with hatred.

‘It’s all because of that bitch that Brandon likes me?’ Darcy seethed inwardly. ‘Why is everything always about Brianna? Why am I always stuck in her shadow, no matter how hard I fight? Bitch! Bitch! Why won’t she just die?’

Darcy gritted her teeth, her jaw tight with rage.

She flashed a warped, ugly smile.

Her eyes flashed with poisonous hatred. She was like a venomous serpent.

‘Bitch, I refuse to believe I can’t destroy you,’ Darcy seethed inwardly.

Darcy spun around and made her way straight to the ICU.

At the entrance stood two tall guys in regular clothes.

Darcy walked up to the glass door.

The two men eyed her warily, watching her every move.
