Chapter 64 The Showdown
Chapter 64 The Showdown
On the way home, Brandon didn’t ask.
And Brianna didn’t explain
Kendra just sat there, pouting in frustration.
She’d been looking forward to spending the New Year with Darcy.
But her mom had messed things up again.
There had been a big argument.
Brianna felt totally drained.
She slumped limply in the car seat, completely spent.
When they got home, Kendra sat there with a sour look on her face, still fuming.
‘Mom better say sorry this time, Kendra thought. ‘She really went too far. She has to apologize to Darcy, no matter what. I won’t forgive her unless she apologizes to Darcy.
Kendra sat on the couch, crossing her arms tightly and pouting.
She sat there grumpily, still fuming and refusing to let it go.
Brianna was completely wiped out.
She didn’t even notice her daughter.
She just went straight upstairs.
Kendra was even more furious now.
‘This time, I’m telling Dad I’m done with Mom, she thought stubbornly.
But Brandon went upstairs after Brianna too.
She was left all alone in the living room, stewing in her own anger.
Suddenly, Kendra felt a hollow ache in her chest.
Brianna barely noticed her anymore.
Her dad wasn’t any better.
Ever since Brianna’s accident, Brandon had been stuck to her side, hardly even looking Kendra’s way.
Brandon spent all his time with Brianna now, way more than he ever spent with Kendra..
‘Darcy was right, Kendra thought. ‘Mom’s just pretending to be sick so Dad will pay all his attention to her. She’s so annoying! Why does Dad always fall for her tricks? I need to call her out for this.’
Kendra’s mind was a tangled mess of emotions.
Brianna had no way of knowing what Kendra was thinking.
She just went straight upstairs and collapsed onto the bed.
Right now, she felt like the whole world was spinning,
Brianna had just flopped onto the bed.
Brandon walked in right after her.
Brianna kept her eyes shut, thinking to herself.
‘Is he coming in to blame me again?’ she wondered. ‘Ugh, I really don’t have the energy to deal with his drama right now
Brandon walked over to her.
He gently pulled the blanket up, making sure she was comfortable.
“Do you want something to eat?” Brandon asked softly.
Brianna shook her head. “I just want to sleep for a bit. If you want to talk, let’s do it later.”
Brandon gave a quiet “mm-hmm.”
Then he turned and headed to his study.
Brianna slept so deeply that it was as if nothing in the world could bother her.
When she finally woke up, she felt alive again.
Chapter 64 The Showdown
This accident had left her fundamentally weakened.
She needed to recover her energy if she wanted to take her revenge.
Neither Brianna nor Brandon was paying her any attention.
Kendra pulled out her phone and called Darcy.
“Darcy, what are you doing?” Kendra asked.
“Oh, Kendra, I’m just tidying up the mess your mom made.” Darcy’s voice was sweet.
Kendra said, “Darcy, Mom was way out of line. make sure she apologizes to you. If she doesn’t, Dad and I will just ignore her.”
Darcy chuckled softly. “Kendra, your aunt loves you so much.”
“I love you too, Darcy!” Kendra replied.
Darcy asked tentatively, “Did your mom say anything to your dad?”
Kendra thought for a moment.
She blinked, genuinely puzzled, and asked, “Say what?”
“Did your mom badmouth me?” Darcy asked.
“No. Dad hasn’t talked to her at all,” Kendra repli
“So what are your parents up to right now?”
“Daro
asked.
Kendra looked upstairs and said, “Dad’s in his study, and Mom looks like she’s sleeping.”
The light in Brandon’s study was still on.
She’d overheard Brandon telling the butler not to bother Brianna upstairs.
Darcy chuckled softly. “Oh, got it.”
Kendra couldn’t stop thinking about those fireworks.
“Darcy, did you set off the ballerina fireworks yet?” Kendra asked, her voice bubbling with excitement.
“Not yet. I was planning to set them off with you tonight. But your mom came and messed things up again,” Darcy said, sounding a little disappointed.
“Looks like I’ll have to set them off alone,” she said with a sigh.
Kendra let out a frustrated sigh. “I’ve watched tons of fireworks before. But I’ve never seen any that burst into ballerinas.
“When you light the fireworks, Darcy, could you film it and send me the video? I really want to see what those ballerina fireworks look like.”
Darcy said, “I’m afraid that’s not possible. These fireworks disappear almost instantly. You really have to see them live. Phones just can’t capture the ballerina shapes.”
It felt like there was an invisible hand scratching at her heart, making her restless with anticipation.
She was even more annoyed with her mom now.
She said, “Darcy, can you wait and set them off when I corne? I’ll ask Dad to bring me over sometime. I really, really want to see those ballerina fireworks!”
Darcy said, “Of course! Are you sure you can get your dad to bring you over just by yourself?”
“Totally! Last time I got Dad to take me all the way to Drokvine to see you, remember?” Kendra pouted and whined sweetly. Darcy grinned, looking like she’d just pulled off a clever trick.
“Deal! I’ll save the fireworks for you. But if I wait too long, the ballerina effect might not work anymore. Just let me know once you and your dad pick a day.”
Kendra said yes happily.
She couldn’t wait for their next meeting.
She skipped upstairs, her heart full of excitement.
She was dying for her dad to take her to see Darcy right now.
Darcy pushed open the door to the study.
She put on her sweetest voice and called out, “Daddy!”
Brandon looked up. “What’s up?”

Kendra pouted and whined sweetly.
Daddy, can you take me to see Darcy?” she pleaded.
“No!” Brandon replied, shutting her down instantly.
Kendra hadn’t expected him to shut her down so quickly.
She frowned.
“Why not?” she protested.
“Didn’t you see how angry your mom was today” he said, his tone serious.
“So just because Mom’s angry, I can’t go see Darcy?” Kendra protested loudly. “I’m angry too!”
Kendra challenged him, raising her voice in defiance.
Brandon looked at his daughter, her cheeks puffed out in anger.
Brandon smiled indulgently, his gaze full of affection.
“What are you so upset about?” he asked, his voice gentle.
“Why is Mom always picking on Darcy? She’s so mean! I don’t even want heras my mom anymore,” Kendra burst out, her voice shaking with anger.
Kendra let all her frustration spill out, unable to hold back
Right at that moment, Brianna walked into th

Kendra felt a brief pang of nervousness.
anger any longer.
o you want instead?” Brianna asked.
She glanced over at Dad, trying to read his mood.
When she saw him smiling, she decided to push her luck.
秘
She said on purpose, “I want Darcy to be my mom! You’re just a mean lady. You always mess things up. I hate you, I hate you, I hate you!”
Kendra whined loudly, her voice shrill with frustration.
Kendra was hoping her words would sting, wanting to see her mom flinch.
