Chapter 82
Brianna was busy revising her design draft when her phone suddenly rang, startling her.
The phone suddenly rang.
It startled her.
She picked up her phone and saw it was Gabrielle.
“That’s unusual. Why would Gabrielle call me?‘ Brianna thought to herself.
“Hi, Gabrielle,” Brianna answered.
“I’ve sent you the invitation to Kendra’s birthday party,” Gabrielle said.
Brianna opened WhatsApp on her computer and saw the e–invitation had just arrived.
“Yes, I got it,” she replied.
Gabrielle sounded hesitant on the phone.
After a pause, Gabrielle finally asked, “Did you see the news about Darcy?”
“Yes, I saw it,” Brianna replied calmly.
Gabrielle was probably trying to probe if Brandon was involved in all this.
In the past, if Brandon was involved, Brianna would have been upset and vented to someone about it.
But this time, she didn’t do any of that.
She felt completely detached from the whole situation.

Gabrielle noticed Brianna wasn’t freaking out or complaining, so she figured Brandon probably had nothing to do with it.
Gabrielle sounded much more relaxed now. “Okay, that’s it.”
And then Gabrielle hung up.
Brianna scoffed as she held her phone.
‘Worried about your precious son? Maybe you should just tell him to quit messing around, Brianna thought to herself.
Brianna checked the time. It was already after six in the evening.
She happened to be free today, so she shut down her computer, grabbed her bag, and went back to the Harper family.
Caroline was sitting on the couch, quietly reading a book.
Her health had gotten better lately, but she just wasn’t as lively as she used to be.
Brianna’s heart clenched at the sight.
When Caroline saw Brianna walk in, her face lit up with a bright smile.

“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming back? I would’ve had the housekeeper make some of your favorite dishes,” Caroline said.
Brianna masked her concern, not letting it show.
She smiled and said, “Anything tastes great when I’m eating with you, Grandma.”
Caroline couldn’t stop smiling.
But then, a look of regret appeared on her face.
“Lately I’ve been feeling sleepy all the time. I’m afraid I won’t be able to make it to Kendra’s birthday party,” Caroline said.
She never forgot anyone’s birthday in the family.
Brianna smiled reassuringly at her grandmother.
“Just take it easy, Grandma. Those parties are all about appearances anyway–too many people, too much noise,” she said.
Caroline smiled sadly, a hint of resignation in her expression.
“I’m getting old. Each year gone is one less ahead of me,” she said.
Brianna felt her heart ache even more, but she put on a brave face.
“Grandma, you’ll live to a hundred, I know it!” she said.
Brianna and Caroline were still chatting when the front door opened.
Mitch and her aunt, Vickie, had just come home.
When Vickie saw Brianna, her face lit up with a warm smile.
“Brianna, you’re back! Hang on, let me whip up your favorite sweet and sour lotus root,” Vickie said.
Brianna quickly stood up.
“Don’t bother, Vickie. You’ve been working hard all day,” Brianna said.
Mitch sat down on the couch.
“Been busy lately?” he asked.
Brianna nodded.
“Yeah, I’ve been working on launching our couture line. There’s a lot to handle,” she replied.
Mitch smiled and encouraged her, “That’s just how it goes when you’re building something from scratch. If you ever need help, just ask me.”
Brianna forced a smile. ‘It’s such a relief to know someone’s got my back, she thought.
The housekeeper had finished preparing the meal, and once everyone was home, she called everyone to dinner.

“Caroline, Uncle, Aurt.” Brianna spoke solemnly. “I came home today because there’s something important I need to discuss with you.”
Noticing Brianna’s serious tone, everyone exchanged uneasy glances.
Caroline looked at her and asked, “Did you get divorced?”
If Caroline was honest with herself, all she really wanted was for Brianna to be happy.
And as far as Caroline was concerned, Brianna’s only real shot at happiness was to walk away from the Levy family.
Brianna smiled. “No, that’s not it.”
Mitch gave Caroline a reproachful look. “Mom!”
He just couldn’t understand why his mother would support Brianna getting divorced.
Brandon was not only handsome but also extremely capable.
If she divorces him, where is she ever going to find another man like that?‘ he thought.
“The Meyers family is going all out to snap up shares in Unity Group. You guys must’ve heard about it already,” Brianna continued.
Mitch and Vickie nodded. “Yeah, we know about that.”
Brianna said, “Let’s sell all the shares we have to them.”
The whole family stared at her, clearly puzzled by her suggestion.
Caroline’s face twisted in anger. “Are we just handing it all to them on a silver platter?”
“That’s a long story short,” Brianna said, “I refuse to let that woman snatching that belonged to Mom.
“So Tristan and I cooked up a scheme. We’re baiting them with the new

She wasn’t sure if they’d really support her plan to bring down Unity Group.

property, setting them up for a fall.”
“If we sell all our shares to them, at least we’re looking out for ourselves,” Brianna said.
Mitch got what she was saying, but he still hesitated.
“Unity Group meant everything to your mom. If it goes under…” he said.
“Even if it means destroying it, that’s still better than letting her get her hands on it,” Caroline said, her voice unwavering.
Mitch didn’t say another word.
“Alright! If that’s what you want, we’re all with you,” Vickie said decisively.

manngripped Vickie’s hand. “Thank you, Aunt”
Most of the time, Vickie always seemed gentle and timid, as if she never had much of an opinion.
But when it really counted, she was the one who stepped up and made the tough decisions.
Ever since Brianna’s mom passed away, Vickie had stepped in as a mother to her.
Brianna’s heart was full of gratitude.

“The Levy family is hosting a birthday party for Kendra this Saturday. Uncle, Aunt, I really hope you can make it,” Brianna said.
Both of them smiled and nodded, “Of course, we’ll be there.”
Mitch’s gaze flickered, darting over to Brianna several
times, but he
never spoke up.
Brianna had already picked up on it. She’d pretty much figured out what was going on in his head.
“Uncle, what’s on your mind?” Brianna asked.
Mitch gave her a worried look. “I saw the news online about Darcy.”
Brianna nodded.
Caroline immediately perked up. “What did you see? Is Darcy causing drama again?”
“It’s nothing big,” Brianna said, trying to calm her. “Her shady stuff just got leaked online.”
Caroline let out a sigh of relief.
“That’s a relief. Guess there really is justice in this world after all, she said.
Brianna smiled.
Seeing Brianna unfazed by it, Mitch relaxed a bit.
“Now that the news about her being an illegitimate child is out, your dad’s probably going to get caught up in it too,” he said..
Truth was, he was worried that all those old skeletons coming out of the closet might end up hurting Brianna’s startup plans.
“They had it coming,” Brianna said
