On Saturday morning, Briama got up early, put on her finest makeup, slipped into an elegant dress, and grabbed the gifts she’d picked out. She headed straight to the Levy family’s house.
Kendra was seven years old now.
Brianna really wanted to spend some quality time with her daughter today.
When she arrived, Kendra had just woken up.
The nanny set out a bunch of dresses for Kendra to pick from.
As soon as Kendra saw Brianna, she jumped off the bed and leapt into her arms.
“Mommy!” Kendra called out.
Brianna smiled and wrapped her arms around her daughter.
“Happy birthday, my little princess,” Brianna said.
Kendra hugged Brianna’s waist, bouncing up and down with excitement.
“Mommy, I was worried you wouldn’t be able to spend time with me again today,” Kendra said.
Brianna bent down and kissed her daughter on the forehead.
“It’s your birthday, honey. How could I not be here?” Brianna replied.
She and Kendra were chatting when Brandon showed up at the doorway, shooting Brianna a look.
“You’re back?” Brandon asked.
She nodded, keeping her attention on Kendra.
She didn’t notice Brandon coming in.
Brandon settled onto the small sofa, a gentle smile in his eyes as he watched Brianna and Kendra pick out dresses.
Truth was, when Brandon heard Kendra call out “Mommy,” he immediately jumped out of bed.
ľ
He rushed straight to his daughter’s room, barely able to contain his excitement.
Brianna patiently let Kendra agonize over the mountain of dresses, letting her take as long as she wanted to pick.
Kendra could feel the unconditional love from her mom that she’d missed so much.
She was absolutely thrilled, grinning from ear to ear.
She was even more pampered and clingy than usual.
Kids or grown–ups, it was all the same. When one was loved without conditions, he or she would feel like nothing could
touch them.
Kendra frowned, acting like a little adult as she agonized over her choices for ages.

Finally, she chose an exquisite white couture princess dress.

Brianna was just about to take Kendra to wash up when she turned around and nearly jumped out of her skin. Brandon was lounging on the little sofa.
He was wearing a white T–shirt, gray lounge shorts, and slippers.
He looked like an ordinary guy relaxing at home nothing like his usual polished CEO self.
Brianna pursed her lips in impatience.
She took Kendra by the hand and started toward the bathroom.
Kendra looked at Brandon, puzzled.
“Daddy, are you having trouble picking out what
to
wear too?” she asked.
“Yeah,” Brandon said, propping his chin up with his hand as he watched Brianna and Kendra. “I can’t decide either.”
Kendra tugged at Brianna’s hand, actin
‘Your dad’s nuts!‘ Brianna nearly said.
She almost blurted it out.
all cute. “Mommy, can you help Daddy pick out his clothes?”
But with Kendra right there, she managed to hold it in.
Kendra piped up, “Daddy looks the same no matter what he wears.”
Kendra waved her hand, insisting, “No, it’s not the same. My dress is white, Mommy’s is black, so Daddy needs to wear black too. That way, we all match as a family.”
Brandon laughed, clearly delighted. “You’re absolutely right,/sweetheart. So clever!”
The thought of wearing matching couple’s outfits with Brandon made Brianna cringe inside.
“It’s way too hot for a suit, Dad,” she said.
Brandon jumped in right away.
“A black shirt will do,” he offered.
Brianna couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Ugh, this guy is such a nutcase,’ she thought.
Suddenly, it hit her that she was getting a bit too triggered by the almighty CEO Brandon.
Now, every time he opened his mouth, no matter what he said, it just grated on her nerves.
Brianna paid him no mind and took Kendra to wash up.
Once they finished and came out, Brandon was still lounging on the little sofa.
Brianna rolled her eyes. ‘Is he nuts or just really has nothing better to do?‘ she thought.
“Mommy, I want you to do my hair,” Kendra pouted.

Baldy, io Hook pretty?” she asked.
Brandon stood up and scooped her into his arms.
“You’re the prettiest princess ever, sweetheart,” he said.
Kendra looked anxious and hurriedly protested, stopping him.
“Daddy, don’t wrinkle my dress,” she said.

Seeing Kendra’s anxious reaction, Brianna realized her little girl was growing up. She was starting to become more independent and assert herself.
Brandon gently set Kendra down, giving her a doting smile.
“Sorry, sweetheart. Daddy didn’t do it on purpose,” he said softly.
Brianna watched, letting out a quiet sigh.
Brandon was always so cold and distant, but he just melted when it came to his own child, turning gentle and soft.
That kind of fatherly love was something Brianna had never experienced herself.
Kendra took Brandon’s hand in one and Brianna’s in the other.
“Mommy, now we need to help Daddy choose his clothes!” she said.
Brianna didn’t have the heart to spoil Kendra’s fun.
So she tagged along to the master bedroom.
Brandon, clearly excited, opened the doors to the walk–in closet,
“Which one should I wear?” he asked.
His eyes sparkled like a kid who just got handed a piece of candy.
Brianna awkwardly looked away, avoiding his gaze.
She was so used to his frosty CEO face. Seeing him suddenly so eager just made her skin crawl.
Brianna stared at the perfectly pressed clothes in the closet, and a flood of memories hit her.
Back then, she used to manage every little thing for him.
Even after a long day at work, she’d ignore the whole team of housekeepers and insist on doing everything herself, like some kind of full–time housewife.
She’d sort all his clothes by color and season, making sure everything was absolutely perfect.
She was always worried they wouldn’t do it right.
‘See? I’ve been gone all this time, and nothing’s changed for him,‘ Brianna thought.
His life was still perfectly put–together, like always.

Brianna let out a bitter laugh. Turns out my love was so cheap. Only I ever got moved by it. It never really mattered to him! she thought.
She pulled out a white shirt, barely paying attention.
