Transmigrated to Raise Panther Cubs
Chapter 103 A Hand That Wouldn’t Let Go
Zachary thought it made sense and nodded right away.
Bruce rummaged around again, then turned his head. “Donald, where’s that stuff I traded with the Goldfinch tribe?”
Donald pointed to the far right of the shelf. “Under the rock.”
“Found it.” Bruce unwrapped layers of leaves and pulled out a few yellow–brown, heart–shaped ones. “Take one before bed. Put it in a container and light it slowly over a fire.”
Zachary was deeply grateful. “Thank you.”
The sunlight was bright, the afternoon rays warm against his skin–so warm it almost felt like spring,
Outside the cave, quite a few sub–therians sat around. Some gathered in small groups, weaving baskets with vines while chatting. When they saw Zachary, they greeted him one after another.
Zachary smiled and nodded back.
A group of cubs came running toward him, chasing and playing. They clutched somethin tossing it at each other now and then, their faces lit up with carefree laughter.
Suddenly, something hit Zachary on the head. He instinctively reached up and rubbed it.
A round, brown object rolled to his feet.
He looked down–and his eyes lit up. There were some chestnuts on the ground.
He quickly picked one up. It was big, full, and solid in his hand.
in their hands,
The cubs froze the moment they realized they had hit him. They rushed over and stood neatly in front of him. “Zachary, are you okay?”
One of the sub–therian cubs tilted his face up, apologizing earnestly. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.
Zachary smiled. “It’s okay.” Then he asked where they’d found the chestnuts.
“There are tons in the back mountain–covering the ground!”
“Yeah, and
on the trees
all in those spiky balls!”
“We picked a lot today!”

The cubs were eager to answer, their childish voices chiming all at once.
Zachary’s excitement flared instantly. “That many?”
“Yeah! Yeah!”
“You don’t eat them?”

The cubs shook their heads in unison. “They’re really hard. Can you eat them?”
Zachary nodded with a grin. “You can–and they’re delicious.”
Finished
At once, the cubs shoved the chestnuts in their hands toward him, their eyes shining with anticipation. “Zachary, can we try some after you make them?”
“Of course.” Seeing it was getting late, he added, “Then tomorrow, can you take me to where these grow? We can gather more and make something really tasty.”
The cubs lit up with excitement. “Yes! Yes!”
From a distance, Matthew saw Zachary surrounded by cubs and walked over quickly. Seeing that Zachary could barely hold all the chestnuts, he reached out to help.
“I’m fine.” Zachary lifted the hem of his shirt to cradle them. “Did you finish discussing things?”
“Yeah. We’re leaving in five days to trade for salt.”
“Can I come with you?” Zachary asked eagerly.
Matthew nodded. “I’ll take you.”
Zachary blinked, his eyes sparkling like stars. Matthew was practically a towering figure in his mind now.
“Matthew, thank you.”
“You’re my mate.”
For some reason, those words stirred something in Zachary’s chest, like a small fish darting through water, ripples spreading outward.

The two of them walked home side by side.
Left behind, Yael stood alone under a distant tree. After watching the whole scene, he shook his head helplessly, then headed home, planning to vent to Quincy and get some comfort.
But when he got back, he found that Taylor had gone off to Jaden’s place again, helping deal with the long- eared beast and long–spined beast..
Yael no longer dared to tell Taylor to just make Matthew his Alpha because that cub might actually go do it.
and
Not long after Zachary and Matthew got home, the two cubs returned as well, carrying the processed prey on their shoulders.
“How are you two so amazing!” Zachary reached out and patted both their heads, generous with his praise.
The cubs flushed, sneaking glances at each other.
Zachary smiled. “Want to try something new?”

Taylor nodded immediately. “Yes, yes!”
Zachary handed them the task of shelling the chestnuts, while he took out the medicine he’d gotten from the shaman and gestured for Matthew to sit.
“If it hurts, say something. I’ll try to be gentle.” Lowering his head, Zachary took Matthew’s hand with one hand and used the pads of his fingers to dab ointment, carefully applying it to the wound.
Matthew watched him quietly. His gaze, usually cold and sharp, now softened like spring water.
“All done.” Zachary said.
Matthew didn’t look away. “Mm.”
“You… let go of my hand for a second.”
“Hm?” Matthew lowered his eyes, only then realizing that his hand, which had been resting lightly in Zachary’s palm, had somehow tightened into a firm grip.
Reluctantly, he let go, his expression completely calm, without a trace of embarrassment.
Zachary, on the other hand, felt a little flustered.
Medicine was precious in this world. After finishing, Zachary carefully wrapped the remaining ointment back in leaves. Then he put the shelled chestnuts into a pot with water and had the two cubs tend the fire to boil them.
The moo beast organs Matthew had brought back the day before were still untouched. Zachary sliced them thin, marinated them, then stir–fried them over high heat with wild onions and garlic shoots.
The sizzling aroma burst from the pan, rushing straight to the face–rich, savory, and impossible to ignore.
