“Did you go to the river?” Zachary reached out and touched Jaden’s arm, noticing that it was icy cold.
Jaden raised a hand and pointed. “There’s a small stream flowing past the west side of the tribe/It’s just near the cave.”
“What if you catch a cold?” Zachary was worried. After all, with how poor the medical conditions here were. even a simple cold would be hard to treat.
“Therians rarely get sick,” said Jayden.
Although Quincy and Elias had both emphasized that the tribe’s cubs were very resilient, Zachary still couldn’t help but see Jaden as an ordinary child who needed to be taken care of.
Besides, rarely getting sick didn’t mean never getting sick.
Zachary pulled Jaden to sit beside the fire and said, “Wait until your hair is dry before going to sleep.”
Jaden didn’t really care about such things, but seeing how insistent Zachary was, he quietly waited for his hair to dry.
After a while, Jaden got up and walked to the corner where he usually slept. His small body curled up under the beast–hide. Against the empty and cold cave, he looked even more fragile, especially with the cave entrance letting the wind howl through.
Looking at Jaden, Zachary felt a pang in his heart.
He walked over and crouched beside Jaden, gently shaking his shoulder while saying, “Jaden, why don’t we sleep together tonight?”
Jaden turned over and looked at Zachary. “Sire, I’m fine sleeping here.”
“It’s not fine at all.” Zachary thought for a moment before saying, “For the next few days, sleep with me in

A trace of surprise flashed across Jaden’s eyes when he heard this. Still, he said softly, “It’s fine…”
“Come on now.” Zachary didn’t give Jaden a chance to refuse as he wrapped the latter up in a beast–hide before scooping him up and carrying him toward the inner cave.
Realizing he was being held in Zachary’s arms, Jaden’s body instantly stiffened. In his memory, his Sire had never held him before.
The stone bed in Zachary’s cave was large. Thick layers of dried grass were laid underneath, topped with two layers of soft beast–hides. Even the hide blanket used for covering was sewn together from hides of the same color.
In comparison, the place where Jaden usually slept looked much rougher.
“Do you want to sleep on the inside or the outside?” asked Zachary,

Chapter 15 Long–Lost Warmth
As Jaden’s body sank into the soft beast hides, he was momentarily dazed. After a brief pause, he curled up close to the stone wall.
Zachary climbed onto the bed as well. Before lying down, he tucked the blanket around Jaden and gently patted him. “Go to sleep.”
Zachary was truly exhausted today. His mind didn’t even have time to wander before he completely drifted off to sleep.
Soon, Jaden heard steady breathing come from beside him. He opened his eyes and looked at Zachary Wing next to him.
Feeling the softness beneath him, something deep in his heart suddenly stirred.
Jaden had seen Taylor snuggle up to Quincy. He had also seen other children in the tribe act spoiled/with their Sires. However, those were the only things he could long for from afar. Slowly, Jaden had convinced himself that he no longer needed such things. Yet, Zachary’s embrace had stirred the desire buried deep in his heart once again.
Jaden quietly shifted a little closer to Zachary before closing his eyes.
A cub’s attachment to its mother was instinct.
Half–asleep, Jaden suddenly felt someone holding him. Always sharp and vigilant, he opened his eyes immediately.
It was Zachary.
Then, his tense body relaxed, and he closed his eyes once more.
To him, everything felt a little different now.
That night, Jaden felt a warmth he had never experienced before. He no longer needed to turn into his beast form, nor use his fur to keep warm.
After some time, bird chirping sounds echoed through the forests just as they did every morning.
Sure enough, people sleep better after a day of hard work.
Zachary woke up a little late today. Sitting up on the bed, he stretched lazily.
The sun had already risen. From outside the cave came the familiar scraping sound–Jaden was sharpening his claws on a rock.
Zachary walked over and asked, “Do you have to do that every day?”
The little black panther nodded.
Looking at the small black panther in front of him, Zachary suddenly thought of the stray cats he used to feed downstairs at his old apartment. Without thinking, he bent down and stroked Jaden’s fluffy head, then scratched gently under his chin.
Deep in their genes, felines absolutely loved this kind of action.

Although Jaden was still a little tense under Zachary’s touch, instinct quickly overcame reason as he squinted comfortably, forgetting all about sharpening his claws, and rubbed his head lightly against Zachary’s palm.
