Chapter 156 His Beast Form Was Striking
Zachary froze, completely unsure how to respond.
Finished
Daniel was still struggling forward, so Matthew planted a heavy paw on his oversized head and used the other to pull Zachary closer.
“Awoo?” Zachary tilted his head, clearly lost, looking up at Matthew for guidance.
Matthew didn’t bother with words. He just dipped his head, gently grabbed Zachary’s paw in his mouth and guided it straight onto Daniel’s face. “Awoo!”
Go on. Hit him.
Yael was laughing so hard he could barely stay upright. Daniel looked ridiculous, sure–but honestly, he had it coming. If he had used even a shred of common sense, he would’ve realized a blue–eyed lynx charging into a group of black panthers wasn’t a random threat–it had to be someone they knew.
Lucky for Daniel, he hadn’t been completely reckless. Because if he had actually broken Zachary’s neck, Matthew wouldn’t have hesitated for a second to string him up and leave him to dry like smoked panther
meat.
Daniel nudged his face against Zachary’s paw again. “Awoo!”
Zachary had been furious at first when he got pinned, but he could tell Daniel didn’t mean harm–and he wasn’t really injured.
Still, the way Daniel was acting now made it feel like if Zachary didn’t “retaliate,” he might just lie there forever.
When Zachary stayed still, Daniel assumed he hadn’t been forgiven and immediately started howling again. “Awoo!”
Hit me, Zachary! Come on–just hit me!
Yael and Kyle were practically vibrating with excitement, more than willing to step in and “discipline” Daniel themselves.
Zachary’s head buzzed from all the noise. After a moment of thinking, he placed both paws on Daniel’s head and shoved it straight down into the snow with a solid thump. Then he calmly began piling snow over him, like he was casually planting something in the ground.
Matthew stayed crouched nearby, tail flicking lazily, fully approving of his mate’s little act of dominance.
snow win
Seeing that, Yael and Kyle rushed over, laughing like maniacs. They joined in, scooping their paws until Daniel was almost completely buried, only his tail sticking out.
Daniel didn’t move at all–he knew the routine. If he wanted future meals, he had to survive this with dignity intact. So he played dead, only his tail wagging slightly to signal surrender.
Zachary couldn’t hold it in. His expression softened, and a small, amused smile tugged at his mouth as his
whiskers twitched.

After a while, he started to worry Daniel might actually suffocate. He let out a soft “Meow” and began digging him out.
Ethan calmly observed, “Zachary isn’t mad anymore.”
The moment Daniel heard that, his head shot out of the snow, eyes wide and alert.
Unfortunately for Zachary, he didn’t react fast enough–snow burst right over his face.

He shook it off with a disgruntled little pout. Matthew immediately shot Daniel a warning glare, then leaned down to lick the snow off Zachary’s fur while flicking his tail hard enough to smack Daniel away.
“Ummm…”
Zachary, maybe you should just hit me a few more times.
Daniel tried to crawl closer again, but Matthew lifted a hind leg and kicked him aside without mercy.
Donald clapped his hands cheerfully. “Alright, stop fooling around! Let’s head back!”
They had a massive haul–several sacks of fish, a fat grunt–beast, and a large baa–beast.
As they trekked through the snow, Zachary couldn’t stop thinking about how much easier everything felt with fur. Not like before, when he could barely step outside without freezing and losing all strength.
With Matthew walking beside him, that restless tension in his chest faded. Maybe it was instinct, but he wasn’t as tense anymore. He started darting through the snow, leaping and pouncing like he had all the time in the world.
Matthew strolled behind at an easy pace, occasionally grabbing him by the scruff and dragging him out of deep snowdrifts like it was nothing.
Once they returned to the tribe, the ground became flat and easy to walk on. Zachary shook the snow from his fur and stood still, obediently letting Matthew clean his face with warm, careful licks.
Donald and the others dropped off their supplies, then headed into the caves to change back into human
form.
The chief stared at the pile of food, stunned. “You actually brought back this much?”
Even the shaman walked over, surprised. “I didn’t think Zachary’s approach would be this effective.
“Maybe this cold season won’t be so harsh after all.”
Just then, they noticed the silver–gray lynx nearby.
Zachary rarely joined hunts and usually stayed in the cave during beast form, Jaden, most people had never seen him like this.

Still, Zachary’s beast form was striking.

The shaman called gently. “Zachary?”
“Meow,” the lynx answered softly, looking up.
Those long lashes. Those wide eyes. The shaman leaned in without hesitation. “Zachary, your beast form is just as beautiful as your human form.”
Zachary’s ears flicked slightly in embarrassment.
More and more people gathered in the center of the tribe to sort the food, but their eyes kept drifting back to the lynx.
After all, everyone else’s beast form looked like dark masses of fur. A silver–gray fluff like that stood out tog much to ignore.
Especially beside the black panthers–Zachary looked almost luminous in the sunlight.
With Matthew standing nearby, no one dared approach too closely. They could only steal glances, while Matthew kept his usual cold expression, his gaze sharp enough to make anyone think twice.
