Transmigrated to Raise Panther Cubs
Chapter 165 The Rabbit Song and the Medicine Pot
Finished
To thank Leslie for the berries, one of the livelier cubs puffed up his little chest and began singing the nursery rhyme Zachary had taught them.
The song was called “The Snowy Little Rabbit.”
The Rabbit Tribe members froze for a moment. Oh! They even have a song about rabbits? It actually sounds pretty good.
A warm feeling quietly rose in their hearts. The Black Panther Tribe really seems friendly.
When Bruce arrived, the chief was already speaking with the Rabbit Tribe about the trade. Bruce did not join their discussion right away. His attention went straight to the bags the Rabbit Tribe had brought with them.
Leslie had seen Bruce once before from far away, so he recognized him as the Black Panther Tribe’s shaman. He quickly opened one beast–hide bag and revealed the medicinal herbs packed inside.
He looked nervous, yet his tone was very serious as he introduced them one by one.
“This one stops bleeding.
“This one helps bring down a fever.
“This one is good for itching.”
Leslie was timid by nature. If someone stared at him for too long, his face would turn red. Even so, he wanted his tribe to receive more supplies, so he gripped the edge of his clothes and forced himself to explain as much as he could.
Bruce watched the little rabbit grow more nervous with every word and found him rather endearing. He raised a hand and called Donald over.
Donald came forward and started checking the herbs carefully, counting the types and amounts in the bag.
Willis also had the rest of the beast–hide bags opened.
Those bags were filled with vegetables and fruits. In warmer seasons, those things would have been very valuable. During the cold season, though, meat was what every tribe needed most.
That meant the Rabbit Tribe’s final trade would mostly depend on the two bags of medicinal herbs.
Luckily, the Black Panther Tribe currently had traps and fishing baskets. They were not short on meat for the time being.
The Rabbit Tribe had arrived at exactly the right moment.
By the time the sky turned dark, the chief ended the discussion with a smile. He asked Isaac and Linus to bring the Rabbit Tribe members to rest, then sent Kyle and Daniel over with food.
Inside the cave, the fire burned quietly.

Leslie sat near the pot and stared at the soup bubbling inside. The rich smell filled the air, and his throat moved before he could stop himself.
Rabbit sub–therians were known for their high fertility, making them easy targets for greedy therians from other tribes. To protect themselves, the Rabbit Tribe had always hidden deep in the mountains.
The cold season had come too suddenly this year.
Once the snow fell, the animals in the deep mountains disappeared almost overnight. Willis and the other therians hunted every day, but the meat they brought back was only enough to keep the cubs from going hungry.
Leslie had only been allowed to come along because he understood medicinal herbs and could explain thei uses clearly during trade.
Another reason was that they had come to the Black Panther Tribe.
The two tribes had dealt with each other for many years, so this place was safer than most.
Willis filled a bowl with soup and handed it to Leslie.
When he saw the hunger in Leslie’s eyes, along with the way his younger brother still tried to hold himself back, guilt pressed heavily against his chest.
“Thank you, Willis.” Leslie held the bowl with both hands.
The soup was still steaming, yet he could not resist lowering his head and taking a sip.
The heat burned his mouth at once.
Leslie’s face flushed red, but he refused to waste even a little. He kept the soup in his mouth, endured the heat, and slowly swallowed it.
The flavor was so rich that his eyes brightened.
Warmth spread through his body almost immediately.
“Willis, you should drink some too.” Leslie lifted the bowl toward Willis with a happy, expectant look.
Willis shook his head gently. “You have it.”
Just then, Bruce and Donald stepped into the cave with several fish.
Bruce looked at Leslie with a gentle smile. “Little rabbit, may I ask you for a favor?”
Leslie blinked. “M–Me?”
Willis immediately moved in front of him. His expression turned cautious. “Mr. Bruce, what do you want
from him?”
Bruce did not mind his wariness. His voice stayed calm and friendly. “I am trying to make a new medicine, though I am still missing a few suitable ingredients. I wanted to ask him to help me take a look.”
Donald placed the fish down beside them. “You can come too if you are worried.”

Bruce nodded. “Of course, I will pay him for the help.”
That was how the four of them ended up gathered around a medicine pot for most of the night.
To their surprise, the medicine actually worked.

Leslie added a plant from the Rabbit Tribe’s mountain. It blended well with the other herbs, and the smell was much better than before. After the mixture was boiled down and left to harden, they shaped it into small, round pills.
The new form made it much easier to carry around.
Bruce was very pleased.
When he realized the night had grown late, he turned to Leslie. “Little rabbit, think about what exchange. During tomorrow’s trade, remember to tell me.”
Leslie nodded obediently.

Under the glow of the fire, he sneaked several glances at Bruce. This shaman is so gentle. He is really good- looking, too.
The next morning, snow began drifting from the sky again.
The snowfall was light. Thin white flakes floated down slowly, like tiny pieces of torn paper.
Zachary had been following Matthew around every day recently. During the day, they ran across the mountains. At night, Matthew sometimes tormented him until he had no strength left.
Because of that, waking up early had become nearly impossible.
Matthew tucked the sleeping lynx snugly under the beast–hide blanket before going to prepare breakfast.
They had plenty of fish at home, yet Zachary did not seem very fond of the fish soup Matthew made.
After noticing that, Matthew slowly changed the morning meal into congee.
Some days, he added dried stonepit fruit and sour fruit. Some days, he used red sweet potatoes. On other mornings, he threw in chestnuts.
He kept changing the ingredients, as if trying to discover the one flavor Zachary liked best,
After making Zachary’s congee, Matthew would roast meat for himself and Jaden.
Jaden and Taylor had gone out early to gather firewood.
The cold season burned through wood quickly. Every day, the two cubs dragged back a large pile to keep
the cave warm.
Zachary had heard the cubs talking about the Rabbit Tribe, and curiosity finally managed to beat sleepiness. He forced himself to get up early for once.

Both father and son looked surprised.

Zachary was speechless.
Since Matthew had already locked him firmly in his arms, the lynx had no choice but to sit still and oper his mouth obediently.
