Chapter 206 I Can’t Bear to Leave You
Jaden’s eyes grew wet. He spoke in a very small voice. “Site, I can’t bear to leave you.
Warm tears slipped from the corners of his eyes. After holding everything in for days, he finally reached his breaking point.
Jaden clung to Zachary, his voice choked. “Sire, can’t bear to leave you..
Maybe it was because of the way he had grown up, but Jaden rarely cried.
This was the first time Zachary had ever seen him
cry.
No matter how steady he usually was, Jaden was still a child, and a pick one at that.
He cried like his heart was breaking, but even then, he held himself back. Even his sobs were very quiet.
Zachary hugged Jaden tightly and stroked his back again and again. “Baby, don’t be scared. Sire is right here…”
“Sire… you and Alpha have to take good care of yourselves from now on…” Jaden said brokenly. “Don’t…. Don’t stay sad for too long…”
“Our Jaden will be fine. Your Sire and Alpha will stay with you and watch you grow up.” Zachary’s eyes were red as he said softly, “Our family will always be together.”
His mate and cub were both crying.
“Don’t be scared.” Matthew pulled them both into his arms. His steady voice was like a lighthouse on a stormy sea, giving a drifting boat something to steer toward.
Jaden’s voice gradually faded. Tear tracks still streaked his flushed face.
“Jaden will get better.” Matthew gently wiped the tears from the corners of Zachary’s eyes with his fingertips. “I’m here. Don’t be scared.”
“Go to sleep.”

Donald carried Bruce on his back for the second half of the journey.
Along the way, they ran into a pack of starving wolves searching for food. The wolves seemed desperate enough to set their sights on Bruce and Donald, even though they were both in beast form.
Normally, black panthers wouldn’t have taken a wolf pack seriously. But they had been running through the wind and snow for several days straight, and they were already exhausted.
There were a lot of wolves, and they were fighting like they had nothing left to lose, making them genuinely hard to deal with.
Donald and Bruce broke into a run, but the starving wolves chased them relentlessly.

The standoff dragged on for a long time, and the wolves showed no sign of giving up.
When it became clear a fight was unavoidable, Donald immediately stayed behind to hold them off and told Bruce to go first.
“Stop right there!” Bruce glared at him.
After quickly hiding the medicinal herbs up in a tree, he let out a low growl, turned around, and lunged at the vicious wolves watching them hungrily nearby.
The two black panthers fought the pack in the howling wind and snow.
Soon, the thick smell of blood spread through the freezing air.
Both sides had been pushed to their limits. Neither side gained the upper hand. They watched each other closely, each trying to judge who would fall first.
Donald had quite a few wounds on him. Warm blood slid little by little down his snow dusted fur, quickly soaking through a patch of it.
Bruce was doing slightly better, but his condition wasn’t good either.
The wolves attacking them were the strongest in the pack. They came in wave after wave, trying to wear Donald and Bruce down through sheer endurance.
When Donald stepped in front of him again, Bruce suddenly charged out from behind him. He bared his sharp fangs and sank them hard into one of the wolves lunging at them.
A sharp howl rang out.
With his mouth full of blood, Bruce stared darkly at the wolves trying to move closer, warning them without a word.
A sharp pain suddenly pierced his abdomen. He only glanced down before flinging aside the dying wolf in his jaws and biting the back of the neck of the starving wolf that had ambushed him.
Donald had his back to Bruce as he drove back the wolves attacking from the other side. When he heard the sound, he turned his head at once. “Are you okay?”
His dark fur hid the terrible wound. Bruce looked calm as he shook his head.
There was no right or wrong here. They were all fighting to survive.
At last, after who knew how long, the wolves backed down. Their losses had gone far beyond what they had expected.
These two black panthers were not easy prey.
The lead wolf let out a mournful low growl. The vicious wolves that had been rushing in gradually stopped and slowly backed away.

Only after the pack disappeared into the blinding snow did Donald’s tense muscles finally loosen.
He staggered as he turned to Bruce. “Are you all right?”
Before Bruce could answer, Donald suddenly caught sight of the pool of blood on the ground. His expression changed at once, and he rushed over. “What happened to you?”
“Where are you hurt?!”
“I’m fine.” Bruce shook his head. “Let’s go back.”
However, after only a few steps, the black panther shifted into human form and collapsed into the snow.
“Bruce!”
The people of the tribe had been waiting anxiously, and at last, Mr. Bruce and Donald returned. But the moment they saw what shape the two were in, they panicked.
Bruce was unconscious, wrapped tightly in Donald’s clothes, and Donald had carried him back step by step through the ice and snow..
The cold wind howled. Covered in wounds, Donald’s hands and feet had gone stiff, and he had only made it back by gritting his teeth and forcing himself onward.
Donald’s voice was hoarse. “Sire, please check on Bruce. He’s hurt.”
“These are the medicinal herbs we traded for.”
After saying that, he swayed and couldn’t hold on anymore.
Inside the cave, Zachary held the sleeping Jaden and stared blankly at the fire.
Matthew pushed the door open and came in covered in snow. “Mr. Bruce is back.”
Zachary’s head snapped up. “He’s back?!”
“Yeah.” Matthew opened his coat and wrapped Jaden up tightly. “Let’s go over.”
Zachary hurried toward the cave entrance.
Matthew reminded him, “Get your coat on.”
