Chapter 310 Apology Noodles
“Tomorrow happens to be a rest day.”

By this point, Matthew was practically buried beneath the pile. Just as he opened his mouth to speak, the door closed with a click.
Zachary had even placed a clay jar behind the door, balanced on a protruding ledge. The moment someone opened the door, it would be knocked over and shattered.
“Don’t even think about sneaking in during the night. There’s a clay jar behind the door. If it breaks, you’ll be sleeping next door forever.”
Matthew didn’t even dare knock on the door now. All he could do was try to convey his feelings through his voice. “Zachary? Zachary?”
“Stop making noise. We’re going to sleep.”
As soon as Jaden saw his sire come over, he immediately scooted aside. The corners of his lips curled upward ever so slightly, and his ice–blue eyes were fixed entirely on Zachary.
After climbing into bed, Zachary gathered the child into his arms, kissed his forehead with a soft smack, and gently patted his back. “Tonight we’ll hear a different story. In a patch of thick grass by the river, there lived a quacking beast who laid a nest of eggs… Among all the little quacking beasts, there was one that was unusually large and very ugly…”
Outside, Matthuatted on the ground and listened to the story drifting from inside.
After a long sigh, he really did pick up the pile of clothes, sit outside the cave, and begin washing them one by
The moon shone brightly that night.
Hearing movement outside, the little moo beast poked its head out of its shelter. It had just started to approach when it realized the person outside was Matthew. Immediately, it backed up and retreated.

Matthew set down what he was holding and walked over to the pen. He stared at the little moo beast with obvious displeasure. The little moo beast instantly hid behind the larger moo beast.
Matthew tossed several handfuls of hay into the enclosure before returning to his laundry in silence.
Unhappy as he was, he washed every piece with painstaking care. After rubbing soap evenly across the fabric, his large hands gently worked the material clean. Every so often, he would lift a garment toward the moonlight and inspect it.
By dawn, the clucking beasts had begun crowing. Matthew, who had spent the night on the stone bed, abruptly opened his eyes and headed outside.
Jaden usually woke up early, but with his sire sleeping beside him, he’d lingered in bed a little longer than usual before getting dressed and washing up.

The father and son encountered each other in the main room.

Jaden was a good child. He walked over on his own initiative and asked, “Do you need me to start the fire?”
Matthew slapped a lump of dough onto the stone counter and coldly rejected the offer. “No.”
Jaden looked at his Alpha, whose face was covered in flour, and secretly fought down a smile. “I was only telling the truth yesterday.”
That was exactly why it was so infuriating. Because it was the truth, there was no way to explain it away. Any attempt to defend himself would only make things worse.
Matthew looked at him. “Do you know what I want to do right now?”
“You want to hit me.” Jaden remained perfectly calm. “But if you do, Sire will be even angrier.”
Matthew tightened his grip on the rolling pin. “Get outside and chop firewood.”
Jaden nodded wisely. “Okay. Sire likes thinner noodles.”
“Get out.”
Matthew wasn’t particularly skilled at making delicate foods. Although he’d watched Zachary do it countless times, he never seemed able to tame his own hands. If the dough was too wet, he’d add flour. If it became too dry, he’d add water.
After kneading, pounding, and wrestling with it for ages, he’d finally managed to produce an enormous lump of dough. The problem was turning it into noodles.
Leaning against the counter, Matthew frowned in thought. Eventually, he picked up the rolling pin and tried to imitate his mate. Bending over, he rolled back and forth with all his strength.
The dough immediately wrapped itself around the rolling pin and refused to come off. By the time he’d peeled it all back down, it had become a sticky mess. In the end, he resorted to shaping every strand by
hand.
He worked from the first hint of dawn until broad daylight.
When Zachary woke up and emerged from the cave, stretching lazily, he found Matthew covered in flour and dropping something into a pot.
Hearing him approach, Matthew looked up. “I made noodles.”
“You know how to make noodles?” Zachary asked suspiciously as he walked over.
As expected, the contents of the boiling broth were…
Difficult to describe.
The cooking area was hot and stuffy. Sweat beaded on Matthew’s forehead, and his face was slightly

flushed. Flour dusted his hair and clothes, making him look messy and disheveled. But one thing was undeniable–he had put a great deal of effort into it.
Without a word, Zachary turned and went into the washroom. He returned with a towel, soaked it in cool water, and promptly slapped it onto Matthew’s forehead before wiping away the sweat.
Matthew lowered his head cooperatively. Then, taking advantage of the opportunity, he stole several kisses from his mate’s cheek.
When Zachary didn’t dodge them, a ray of sunshine finally broke through Matthew’s gloomy mood.
A short while later, Zachary noticed the rows of laundry hanging outside the cave. His eyes widened, and he turned toward Matthew in disbelief. “You didn’t sleep last night?”
Matthew carried the bowls over to the stone table beneath the tree and answered casually, “Yeah. Wasn’t really sleepy.”
Zachary’s expression grew complicated. He chewed through the largely flavorless noodles. When Matthew asked whether they tasted good, Zachary instinctively nodded.
He and Quincy had arranged to go gathering that day. Since Yael hadn’t arrived yet, Zachary told Matthew to lie down and get some sleep.
Instead, Matthew simply laid his head across Zachary’s lap. “It’s more comfortable this way.”
Taylor arrived first to look for Jaden. Not long after the two children left together, Yael and Quincy showed up as well.
Zachary reached down and pinched the back of Matthew’s neck.
Yael laughed. “Why don’t you just sleep in Zachary’s arms? You’re such a huge lump that from a distance I thought one of your moo beasts was lying here.”
Matthew shot him a sidelong glance. “If you miss it that much, go find it in the pen yourself.”
