Chapter 327 Unfamiliar Territory

Zachary was simply too exhausted. As Matthew carried him around, he showed no intention of waking up. The moment he was placed into the bath barrel, his head nearly tipped forward and hit the edge. Luckily, Matthew reacted quickly and caught it with his palm.

Matthew supported Zachary with one hand while washing him with the other, and by the end, he was sweating all over.

Once fully relaxed, Zachary lay on the cool bamboo mat, hugging a soft pillow, and quickly fell into a deep sleep.

Matthew didn’t bother heating more water. He grabbed a bundle of clothes and headed to the river. After bathing, he could wash the clothes as well. He’d been busy the past few days, and he hadn’t had time to deal with the laundry.

When Matthew woke up later on, his hand instinctively reached toward his chest. Lately, Zachary liked to sleep sprawled over him, resting his face against his soft chest muscles, occasionally rubbing against him and planting little kisses, sometimes even leaving faint bite marks.

But now, he felt nothing.

Matthew’s eyes snapped open, and he froze at once.

At some point, he had turned into his beast form. His furry paws were raised, swiping aimlessly through the air. The sunlight was gentle, the sky clear.

The black panther slowly sat up, looking around in confusion.

Everything was unfamiliarsparse woods, wild overgrown grass, and endless stretches of green fields.

Something was wrong. There were no caves, nor a mountain in sight.

Where was Zachary? Where was the tribe?

Matthew suddenly sprang to his feet, a panicked roar echoing across the open land. He ran aimlessly until he reached a wide road. It was smooth and flat, made of some unknown material.

A boxshaped object rushed toward him at incredible speed, roaring past.

Matthew leapt aside, staring at it blankly as it disappeared into the distance, as if trying to understand what was going on. More than anything, he was stunned.

Just then, he heard sounds approaching, followed by startled cries.

Turning his head, Matthew saw two people sitting on a long, narrow object with two round wheels. What a strange shape.

He tried to transform back into human form to ask them, but his body suddenly froze, and he couldn’t change back.

Matthew let out a low, anxious growl.

The two people fled in panic, leaving behind a trail of grayish smoke.

Matthew thought he saw buildings in the distance and was about to approach, when two boxshaped objects blocked his path.

Irritated, he growled in warning, telling them to move aside.

Two people poked their heads out, holding something in their hands that resembled bows. At once, they fired at him repeatedly.

Matthew dodged nimbly and pounced toward them.

The boxy vehicles were knocked askew, and the people inside turned pale with fear, scrambling backward.

If not for those obstructing objects, Matthew would have already dragged them out and flung them away.

But suddenly, a sharp pain struck his back. His body went numb, gradually losing control. He shook his head forcefully, but in the end, he still collapsed to the ground.

The staff carried the agitated Matthew onto a vehicle and transported him to a wildlife rescue station in the city. After a series of examinations, they reached a conclusionthe large black panther was in excellent

health.

However, its origin was unknown. They decided to send it to a zoo for the time being, and once its habitat was identified, they would arrange transport to return it.

Matthew was placed alone in a separate enclosure.

In a daze, he thought he heard low growls similar to his own. Slowly opening his eyes, he saw several black panthers not far away, peeking curiously at him.

Hey, dude. Where are you from?

How are you so big? What do you usually eat?

Hey, we’re talking to you.

Matthew ignored them completely. His golden eyes were dark and cold as he stared at the layers of wire fencing around him. The next second, he lunged forward, his sharp claws scraping against the metal with a harsh screech.

Whoa, that fierce?

Hey, don’t waste your energy. You can’t get out.

Matthew’s aura turned grim. What place is this?

A zoo.

You were caught, right?

Don’t get worked up. There’s food and drink hereit’s actually not too bad.

Matthew suddenly recalled something Zachary had once said casually, and he furrowed his brows.

He noticed that the fencing on the opposite side seemed thinner and asked, How do I get to your side?

All newcomers have to stay locked up for a couple of days first. Once you behave, they’ll let you out.

Staff members carried in buckets of raw meat and dumped them through the feeding hatch.

Matthew stared coldly at the man, who felt a chill run down his spine and quickly finished before hurrying

away.

Why aren’t you eating? It’s fresh meatsmells great.

Matthew scanned his surroundings, unwilling to respond. Finally, annoyed by the questions, he roared, I don’t eat raw meat!

You don’t eat raw meat? What do you eat, then?

Matthew replied expressionlessly, Cooked food.

What? Isn’t this food?

The moment food was mentioned, Matthew thought of Zachary even more. His ears drooped, and his expression turned deeply sorrowful.
