The boy cried out in pain, eyes watering, but he fought back just as fiercely. The two of them instantly tangled together.

Taylor went at him like a little wild beast, scratching and biting. “That’s what you get for bullying people!”

The leader of the group shouted, “What are you waiting for? Help him!”

Seeing this, Little Baldy rushed in too, throwing punches at the kids piling onto Taylor, pulling and kicking in a flurry.

The scene quickly turned chaotic.

Jaden had just finished helping Sean and Lanny with the vegetable patch. As he reached the edge of the market, Logan came running over, panting. “Jaden! Taylor and the others are fighting! Hurry and go take a look!”

Jaden immediately broke into a sprint.

When he arrived, he saw they were outnumbered–Taylor and Little Baldy had already been pinned to the ground.

He grabbed Taylor’s fishing rod from nearby and charged straight in, swinging at anyone he could reach. The kids yelped and scattered under the blows.

Jaden and Logan worked together to pull the kids off them and helped Taylor and Little Baldy to their feet.

Taylor glanced at the fishing rod in Jaden’s hand, looking distressed. “Careful, don’t break it!”

Jaden asked, “Why were you fighting?”

Taylor’s face flushed red with anger. “They were bullying him! Hit them, Jaden!”

One of the kids across from them clutched his arm and retorted, “What’s wrong with calling him bald? We weren’t lying!”

Taylor lunged forward and punched him again. “Then what’s wrong with me hitting you?”

Jaden turned to Logan. “Go back first.”

Logan shook his head. “No way. We’re from the same tribe!”

What started as two against six quickly became four against six.

Jaden rarely fought, but when he did, he was frighteningly good. A grab here, a shove there–his opponents were sent crashing to the ground one after another.

Even Taylor and Little Baldy stared at him in shock.

Logan, as if finally vindicated, said to Taylor, “See? Back then, Jaden used to beat me and Caesar up all the time. We never stood a chance.”

Before long, the other group was howling in pain.

Taylor’s curly hair was a mess, bits of grass stuck in it. His face was dirty, brows tightly furrowed, fists clenched as he glared at them fiercely. “If you bully people again, I’ll tie you to a tree!”

He added. “No, I’ll take you up into the sky and drop you! I’ll turn you into meat paste!”

The kids scrambled to their feet, sore all over–their backs stinging from the hits, arms and necks marked with bite prints. They looked both angry and miserable as they fled.

Little Baldy had scraped his knee badly. Jaden told Logan to take him somewhere cool and rinse it with water first, while he went to Bruce for some medicine.

Taylor wiped the dirt off his face haphazardly and stuck/close to Jaden, flashing his little teeth, eyes sparkling. “Jaden, you’re amazing!”

But Jaden didn’t tidy his clothes or smooth his messy hair like usual.

Taylor found it strange. He reached for Jaden’s hand, but it was brushed away. Instantly, he looked wronged. “Jaden, what are you doing?”

Jaden kept a straight, cool expression. “How many of them were there? And how many of you?”

Taylor fiddled with his fingers. “But they were bullying Little Baldy…”

Jaden said, “Couldn’t you come back and get more people before fighting?”

Taylor looked up. “They would’ve escaped by then.”

“And if they didn’t run, do you think you could’ve beaten them? I’ve told you before–don’t act impulsively. If something happens, always come to me first.”

Taylor’s brows scrunched together. His head drooped. “My arm really hurts, and you’re still scolding me… My leg hurts too…”

Jaden’s gaze dropped to Taylor’s scraped knee and reddened shin. The sternness in his expression slowly softened. “Will there be a next time?”

Taylor’s eyes turned red. He shook his head.

Jaden sighed. “Can you still walk?”

Taylor bit his lower lip and nodded.

Jaden’s tone softened. “I’m not scolding you.”

Taylor said nothing and walked ahead quietly.

cookies.”

Taylor stopped in his tracks.

Jaden added, “Come over to my place later.”

Taylor hummed in response.

The two kids quickly fell back into

step together, walking side by side.

The sun had fully risen, hanging high in the sky, the air shimmering with heat.

Jaden went to Bruce for medicine, then headed home to pack two large cups of mango smoothies along with some snacks, and brought them over to Little Baldy.

Taylor, who had still been a little down, perked up the moment he saw Zachary experimenting with new food. Before long, he had completely forgotten about what happened earlier, eagerly hovering around to help.

The butter had been made from milk just a couple of days ago. Zachary took the corn kernels they had traded from the marmot tribe, washed and dried them, then put them into a pot to make popcorn.

Not long after covering the pot, crackling sounds began to pop from inside. To Taylor, it felt like magic- the golden kernels at the bottom rapidly puffed up, turning into a pot full of fluffy white blossoms.
