Chapter 336 Jaden’s Little Revenge

Finished

When they had nothing to do. Yael and the others loved getting together after sunset for a little barbecue. With some drunken fruit juice on the side, it was the perfect way to relax.

Ian grew quickly and had already learned how to walk. He couldn’t stay home for long. Whenever Kyle and Elias brought him over, he would wobble along behind Taylor and Jaden. One brother would carry him, then another would give him a piggyback ride. He was always having a great time.

Matthew also sent Jaden to Lanny and Sean’s house from time to time. He said it was so Jaden could spend more time with his grandpas. After it happened enough times, the kid simply put together a set of daily necessities and left them at Sean and Lanny’s place.

After all, his grandpas loved him very much, and Jaden loved spending time with them too. Of course, that didn’t mean he approved of his beast father’s little antics.

Sometimes, as a form of revenge, Jaden deliberately refused to leave. After dinner, he would sit obediently beside Zachary. With his eyes lowered, he would quietly ask if he could sleep with him.

The answer was always yes.

Zachary couldn’t refuse such a sweet and wellbehaved child.

Once they got into bed, father and son would have a silent battle. Then, when Zachary came back after washing up, they would act as if nothing had happened and return to their own spots without being told.

The weather was hot, and Zachary often felt sticky and uncomfortable. Because of that, he wasn’t very interested in those activities. Through experience, however, Matthew discovered that Zachary actually enjoyed it when they were in the water.

As a result, the large pool outside the cave was always filled with water at night. After sitting in the sun all day, the water wasn’t cold at all. The two of them would stay there for a long time.

Afterward, Matthew would bring over a soft beasthide towel and carefully dry the water from Zachary’s body. Sometimes he would wrap him in a thin sheet and carry him up into the trees to look at the stars.

On clear nights during the rainy season, the stars shone brightly. They looked like bits of silver scattered across the endless sky.

The outline of the distant mountains faded in and out of the darkness. Shadows swayed through the forest, and the tops of the tallest trees moved gently in the evening breeze.

Zachary lay in Matthew’s arms and stared at the stars above.

Then he called Matthew’s name.

Matthew gently rubbed his chin against Zachary’s hair.

I’m here.

Zachary said, I want to become a tree.”

Matthew asked, Why?

I want to wrap all of you inside my heart

I want us to grow together for hundreds, even thousands of years, reaching toward the sun.

Because I love you.

The weather during the rainy season changed constantly. Heavy rain would come without warning. Dark clouds covered the sky, and the air felt hot, heavy, and suffocating.

While Zachary followed Matthew to collect the fish traps, he accidentally stepped into the mud near the roots of some riverside grass. He was about to move when a sharp pain suddenly shot through his foot.

He sucked in a breath.

Matthew reacted immediately and grabbed him.

What happened?

Zachary lifted his left leg and frowned.

I think something bit me.

Matthew tossed the trap onto the shore and grabbed/Zachary under the arms. Then he lifted him straight

  1. up.

Hey!

As soon as his foot left the water, Zachary shook it. He noticed something hanging from it. When he looked down, he saw a reddishbrown crawfish. Its two large claws were tightly clamped onto the sole of

his foot.

It had really picked the worst possible spot.

It felt like getting a paper cut right between your fingers. It hurt and tickled at the same time.

Zachary didn’t dare move. He secretly tensed the muscles in his foot, hoping to fight back against the crawfish through sheer stubbornness.

Matthew carried Zachary over and sat him on a rock. Then he crouched in front of him, held his ankle, and tried to remove the crawfish with his other hand.

The crawfish’s claw seemed determined to stay attached to that patch of soft skin.

It refused to let go.

Its grip was surprisingly strong, too.

Zachary couldn’t help crying out.

It hurts!

It’ll be off soon.

Matthew grabbed the gap between the claws and forced them apart. Then he flung the crawfish away.

Does it hurt badly?

Matthew lowered his head and examined the sole of Zachary’s foot. The skin had broken, and tiny streaks of blood were seeping out.

Seeing Matthew’s deeply furrowed brow, Zachary laughed.

It’s just a small cut. It doesn’t hurt that much.

Matthew stared at the culprit, twisting around on the ground. Then he stood up and stomped on it.

Hey!

Zachary didn’t even have time to stop him.

Matthew turned around.

What is it?

Zachary looked at the flattened remains of the crawfish on the ground.

It’sgood to eat.

Spicy crawfish, garlic butter crawfish, seasoned crawfish, crawfish noodles

Just thinking about them made his mouth water.

They were one of the best foods of summer.

And judging by the one that had bitten him, the crawfish in this world were huge. Onebite would be incredibly satisfying.

It just so happened that before a heavy rainstorm, the water’s oxygen level dropped. The crawfish would crawl into shallow areas to breathe.

If we don’t catch them now, when will we?

Zachary immediately forgot about the pain in his foot and wanted to go gather everyone,

When Matthew saw the excitement in his mate’s eyes, he turned around and crouched down.

Zachary stood up.

It’s okay. I can walk by myself.”

Get on.

Oh.

Zachary could only climb onto his back.

After all, Matthew didn’t have many hobbies.

Carrying Zachary around happened to be one of them.

When they got back to the cave, Zachary worried that the rain would start soon and delay their crawfish- catching plans.

He quickly told Matthew to go get Yael and the others.

Jaden already went.

Matthew brought over some clean water and washed Zachary’s foot. Then he sat beside the bed and carefully applied medicine to the wound.
