Chapter 339 Return to the Present

Lanny couldn’t quite follow what Zachary was trying to say, but he still responded by gently rubbing his back. “Let Matthew take you home, alright?”
Zachary gave no reply. He clung on for while longer, then eventually loosened his grip and let go.
Lanny lowered his voice. “You two go back first Jaden will head with us later.”
Matthew gave a small nod. He lifted Zachary up and draped a cowhide raincoat over both of them.
The storm outside was so heavy that it swallowed every other sound.
Now and then, Zachary would cautiously peek out from Matthew’s arms, only to immediately shrink back whenever thunder cracked or lightning flashed across the sky.
Matthew steadied him in his hold and quickened his pace toward the cave. “We’re almost there.”
Another flash split the sky wide open.
In that split second of brightness, Zachary’s thoughts suddenly drifted back to the day of his job interview.
Without warning, he screamed at the top of his lungs, “Oh, the Great Beast God!”
Matthew nearly jolted in surprise. “What’s going on?”
Zachary’s words came out broken and thick, barely coherent. “Superpowers…
“Bring Matthew and Jaden… go meet…
“Grandma and Grandpa…”
By the time they finally reached home, Matthew ended up running after Zachary all over the cave. Whenever Zachary drank too much of the drunken fruit juice, he turned completely chaotic–laughing one moment, crying the next, then bouncing around with endless energy.
Matthew had to exhaust himself just to finally pin him down onto the bed.
The storm didn’t let up the entire night. Even in sleep, the roar of thunder felt unrelenting.
Zachary frowned in his sleep and turned over, reaching out on instinct for Matthew–but his fingers closed around nothing but empty air. He scooted closer again, searching blindly, yet that familiar warm chest was nowhere to be found. “Why is he up so early?”
A dull ache throbbed in his head. Face pressed into the pillow, Zachary pressed his palms against his temples and slowly forced his eyes open.
Something felt off to him. Why is the headboard beige?
He wasn’t fully conscious yet. His fingers brushed over the smooth wood, and he even assumed Matthew

had made something new, lightly rubbing it a couple of times.
Wait… this pillow feels strasse too. Blue–gray checks… Why does this pattern seem familiar?

Zachary pushed himself upright like a seal using its flippers, supporting his weight on his arms. When he lifted his head, he saw a plain white ceiling. Turning his gaze around, he spotted a wardrobe, a desk, and a standing coat rack.
He froze for a moment, then dropped back onto the pillow and buried his face in it.
Something is wrong.
Panicked, he scrambled upright again, rubbed his face hard, and then pinched his own arm. The sharp sting made his mind blank out for a second.
Did I actually die from drinking too much drunken fruit juice and come back here? That’s ridiculous.
Still barefoot and unsteady, he stumbled toward the only bathroom with a mirror–and stopped dead the moment he saw himself.
Silver–gray gradient hair. Ice–blue eyes. No clothes on at all. Even faint red marks and bite marks still lingered on his collarbone, refusing to fade.
Zachary’s eyes widened in shock. Wait… I returned in this body?
His physiology was no longer the same, and in this primitive body, the viruses and bacteria of the modern world could easily overwhelm him.
He also wondered what had happened to his body in the Beastworld if he had truly returned here, and he worried most about what Matthew and Jaden would do if he was gone.
His breathing turned uneven as panic built again, dragging him into a spiral.
Then, the memory of how he had ended up in the Beastworld suddenly flashed through his mind. Almost instantly, his eyes locked onto the nearby electrical socket.
His hand moved toward it in reflex–then paused midair.
Instead, Zachary turned on the tap and splashed cold water over his face, forcing his thoughts back under control.
He returned to the bedroom and retrieved his phone from beneath the pillow. After unlocking it, he saw the date and time–exactly the morning of his interview.
His white shirt and suit trousers were still hanging neatly on the coat rack. On the desk sat his printed resume, and beside it lay a pair of black–and–silver semi–rimless glasses he had picked out to look more professional.
For a brief moment, dizziness hit him hard. It felt as if everything he had experienced was nothing more than a dream, and now he had simply woken up at the beginning of the day again.
He stood there beside the bed, feeling hollow and disoriented.

Chapter 339 Return to the Present
Buze, buzz…
A notification sound pulled him back. He glanced at the screen–and in the next second, a wave of
headlines struck him like a hammer to the skull.
Major news outlets were reporting.
“A New Civilization Unearthed, Redefining Human Evolutionary History”
“National Archaeological Team Confirms Discovery of Prehistoric Civilization Site”
“Breakthrough in Archaeology: Evidence of the Beastworld Civilization”
“Is Human Civilization Cyclical?”
Below the headlines were multiple images.

Zachary tapped one and zoomed in. His gaze tightened sharply. Though the carvings on the stone wall were blurred, he recognized them immediately.
Three overlapping cat heads, the word “Love” written in varying sizes, and the character for “Zachary,” partially worn away at the edges.
And the place he was standing in now was the excavation site itself.
The first batch of artifacts was scheduled to be unveiled at the city museum, as part of a three–day exhibition.
