Chapter 47 A Role Model
The moment the door opened, cold wind and rain hit them. Matthew blocked most of it, and once he stepped outside, he shut the door fast, giving Zachary no chance to peek.
Even with the weather this bad, the paths in the tribe weren’t empty. Therians were still out, heading for
their food.
Since wet beast-form fur is a nightmare to dry, everyone was in human form.
That made things look rough. No matter how cool or handsome a therian was, slicked-down hair and faces battered by wind and rain didn’t exactly scream charm.
Matthew braced himself with both hands on a piece of cowhide. It wasn’t exactly elegant, but at least it was a little better than the others. Mostly, he stayed drier than everyone else.
Yael felt like he recognized the back ahead, but the brown beast-hide covered most of the figure. Not sure, he quickened his pace, and sure enough, it was Matthew.
It was like finding a lifeline. Without a word, Yael slipped in beside him. He wiped rain off his face and asked, “Is this a moo beast-hide?”
The sudden squeeze nearly pushed Matthew out. He steadied himself, turned, and gave a look that screamed disbelief. “Get out.”
“I’m not.” Yael edged closer, marveling, “You actually have extra moo beast-hide at home?”
It made sense to ask. Moo beast-hide wasn’t soft and was not really a clothing material. Most in the tribe avoided it. If they wanted it, they usually turned it into beast-hide bags.
Matthew said flatly, “Zachary asked me to take it.”
“Zachary?” Yael couldn’t help sighing, “So you made it through. He really cares about you.”
“Yeah.” Matthew let the word hang. It fit so that he could tolerate Yael for now.
“Matthew, what’d you guys eat this morning?” Yael asked, curious.
His family’s meals are my main focus right now.
Matthew, unusually, answered, “Mushroom and veggie meat soup. They even added chili pepper. Hot, smells good, really tasty.”
Yael was speechless.
I’m not asking that detailed…
Still, he tried to play it cool. “Chili pepper, huh? I get it, red and thin…”
Matthew added, “The meat’s tender, slippery.”

“What!” Yael, still soaked in the storm, grabbed Matthew’s arm. He couldn’t hide it and immediately begged “Come on, buddy, can I crash for a meal? Maybe watch how it’s made?”
Matthew glanced at the beast-hide. Yael quickly held it up politely, keeping it steady.
“You see, Taylor even called you Alpha. That’s just how close our families are.” Yaci poked Matthew with his arm. “Rainy day, bored, so we thought we’d come keep you guys company. Zachary’s probably missing; Quincy, and Jaden’s likely thinking about Taylor too…”
Matthew stared straight ahead, expressionless.
“Alright, it’s settled then. Later, I’m borrowing that beast-hide of yours,” Yael added.
Matthew just stared at him, totally speechless.
This time, they were splitting the meat inside a huge cave in the tribe’s territory, and everyone there was therian. Their beast-hide was soaking wet, and they all looked a mess.
The moment Yael and Matthew showed up, they drew a lot of attention.
Kyle and Josh immediately rushed over.
“How come you two are so… unique?” Daniel asked.
Yael gestured gracefully at the moo beast-hide in his hands. “No choice Zachary specifically wanted Matthew to wear it. Didn’t want him to get wet in the rain.”
Even more eyes turned toward them.
Matthew stood there, dry hair proving the point better than any words could.
“So what’s your excuse?” Daniel pressed.
Yael smiled. “Just lucky, I guess. Ran into him as soon as I stepped outside.”
“Wow, didn’t see that coming.”
“Seriously, Zachary’s really different now. He actually cares about Matthew…”
“That’s really nice…”
Whispers spread instantly through the crowd.
Some therians even came up to congratulate Matthew. Alfred and Bruce couldn’t hide their pleased smiles.
By now, Zachary’s reputation as a caring, devoted mate had pretty much cemented itself among the therians.
Meanwhile, in the cave, Zachary was bending over the beast-hide, sewing quietly. Little did he know that his simple act of kindness had already turned him into a role model in the tribe.
Of course, Matthew didn’t bother explaining any of the rumors, which perfectly matched his usual persona.

Chapter 47 A Role Model
By the time Zachary found out later, he was completely shocked.
After the Ineat was divided, Matthew carried a slab over his shoulder, holding the cowhide in one hand, and walked quickly foward home.
Zachary had already been waiting by the duor. The moment he saw Matthew, he handed him a soft beast-
hide towel.
Once Matthew sat down, Zachary brought over a bowl of freshly made ginger drink, with a little honey added so it wasn’t too spicy.
His movements were smooth, almost like a little wife.
Matthew drank it in one go, and the chill in his body slowly faded.
Since Zachary had made plenty, he gave some to Jaden, too. Jaden wasn’t a big fan of the spicy-sweet combo, but Zachary said it would prevent getting sick, so he obediently lifted the bowl.
Matthew drank a second bowl, fully warmed up now. He looked at Zachary. “You should have some too.”
“I didn’t go outside and didn’t get wet,” Zachary said with a gentle smile. He’d been forced to drink ginger as a kid whenever he sneezed by his grandmother. Honestly, he wasn’t keen on having it again.
Jaden, sounding all grown-up, chimed in, “Sire, this is good for you.”
