Chapter 73 The White Tiger Tribe

Hey! Whose side are you on?Ethan snapped, bumping his forehead hard against Kyle’s. Let go, alreadyDaniel and the rest moved in, sleeves pushed up, clearly ready to jump in and stir up even more trouble. Kyle flashed Elias a crooked grin. Bring it on.

Curious as ever, Zachary leaned closer to watchjust in time to see Elias scoop up a handful of mud and smear it straight across Ethan’s face.

Hahaha!

This is fun!

Ethan’s thoroughly wrecked face sent everyone into fits of laughter.

D*mn it. man! You ruined my pretty face!

Go tie up the rice bundles!

Ethan had barely finished venting when Elias smacked him again, the hit light but loaded with brotherly mockery.

Kyle smirked and stepped nearer to Elias. If he gives you trouble again, call me. I’ll hold him down for you.Elias glanced up at him. You said it.

Kyle nodded without hesitation. I meant it.

What are you doing standing so close to my brother?Ethan shoved Kyle aside.

Kyle grabbed Ethan by the back of the neck and dragged him away. Look at you. You’re so filthy. What if you get dirt all over him?

Tch.” Elias had no patience for their nonsense.

He turned away and went to find the fragrant Quincy and Zachary instead.

Once the harvest was finished, everyone headed toward the river to clean up.

The water ran deep, but the terrain created shallow, gravellined edges along both banks, making it easy to

wash.

After rinsing off, they each hoisted a heavy bundle onto their backs and started back toward camp.

Along the way, they crossed paths with Henry’s group. Corey immediately spotted Matthew and rushed

over.

Matthew, why’d you cut so much grass?

To eat,Matthew answered simply.

You can eat this?Corey snapped off a stalk and examined it. The head was stiff and prickly, and the stem felt dry and rough. Which part is even edible?

Daniel, standing nearby, chimed in, Zachary said it’s edible.”

What if he’s just tricking you into doing all the work?Corey shot Zachary a glance, his voice rising. Maybe he just wants to take all this dry grass back and use it for bedding.”

Matthew’s expression darkened. Zachary said it can be eaten.

Corey softened his tone. Matthew, you’re strong. The prey you hunt should be more than enough. There’s no need to bother with wild grass.

Elias cut in, clearly annoyed. It’s not for you anyway.

Corey glared at him.

Elias didn’t back down, staring right back with wide eyes. What? Do you want to compare whose eyes are bigger?

Move, moveyou’re in the way. Zachary couldn’t be bothered with that spoiled brat Corey and simply shouldered past him, not sparing him a second glance.

Knocked aside, Corey immediately looked aggrieved. Matthew

But when he looked up, Matthew had already followed after Zachary without a word.

Back at camp, the piles of rice immediately caught everyone’s attention.

They gathered around, curiosity written all over their faces. What is this?

How do

you

eat it?

With so many questions flying at him, Zachary had no choice but to demonstrate. He plucked a rice head, rubbed the grains loose into his palm, then placed them on a rock and ground them repeatedly with another stone.

As the husks fell away, smooth white grains were revealed beneath.

Without a pot, he couldn’t cook it to show them, so he could only explain a few basic ways to prepare it.

They had already been out for quite some time, and the trip had been highly productive. After discussing it, Donald, Henry, and Ryker decided they would spend one more day gathering, then return to the tribe the day after.

The following day went much the same, After breakfast, the three groups split up againsome heading into the mountains to gather, others hunting large prey to bring back.

Donald led his group farther out this time. There was a water source there, and the vegetation grew especially dense.

More importantly, longmaned beasts roamed the area, their scent thick in the air.

Zachary and the other subtherians worked along the hillside, digging up edible greens.

Meanwhile, Matthew and the others proud to encircle and hunt the longmaned beasts.

Donald warned them. Don’t wander off. Stay here. Isaac and Linus will protect you.

Garrett nodded. “I’ll keep an eye on them.

Before leaving, Matthew went over to Zachary. If anything happens, shout.”

Got it.

The greens here were especially tender. Zachary planned to take some back to pickle, so he dug up/ anything he recognized as edible.

Matthew had him drink a lot of water that morning, so before long, Zachary felt the urge to relieve himself. Out of habit, he walked a fair distance away and found a secluded spot.

But just as he finished and pulled up his pants, he had barely taken two steps before coming facetoface with a stranger.

Startled, Zachary stumbled back, gripping the stone blade Matthew had given him for protection.

The man stood tallaround six feet threewith sharp, striking features. His hair was white, his eyes a pale violet. One arm was bare, revealing defined muscles, and a beasthide skirt hung around his waist.

Most notably, a pair of fluffy white earsstriped with blacksat atop his head.

Zachary watched him warily, body tense, calculating whether shouting would alert Isaac and the others.

My name Hubert. I’m from the White Tiger Tribe.

His voice was bright and clear, and paired with his easy smile, it eased some of Zachary’s tension.

He didn’t seem hostilebut the intensity in his gaze made Zachary uneasy.

Ohdo you need something?

Hubert’s ears flicked unconsciously as his gaze lingered on the striking subtherian before him. What are you doing out here on your

Did you get separated from your tribe?
