Trash Husband, I'm the Top novel Chapter 398

Now, even that faint glimmer of hope had vanished.

There was no light left in her eyes.

“Grandma, look at me. It’s Aurora.” Nora squeezed her grandmother’s hand, her voice gentle and quiet. “You have to hold on. We need to say goodbye to him one last time.”

Mrs. Cooper knew it herself—she simply couldn’t move past this.

After all, she had already lost two sons.

A long time passed before the elderly Mrs. Cooper finally spoke. “Aurora.”

Her voice was hoarse and brittle, heavy with sorrow.

“We’re going to the funeral.”

She had to send her son off, no matter how much it hurt.

Monica kept her silent vigil by David’s side.

Nora walked over. “Monica.”

Monica tried to manage a smile, but it looked more like pain than comfort. “Nora, I don’t have a dad anymore.”

Nora’s heart ached; she pulled Monica into a tight embrace, whispering, “You still have your brother and sister, and Grandma. We’re all here for you. You’re not alone.”

Monica broke down completely, sobbing in Nora’s arms.

Nora wept too, rubbing Monica’s back and holding her close.

Just then, Mary finally arrived.

Once again, she was dressed in black, her grief raw and unfiltered, as she flung herself onto David’s grave. “David, how could you leave me like this? What am I supposed to do—what will Monica and I do now?”

Monica, whose tears had just begun to subside, choked up all over again, unable to hold it together.

“Mary, you have to be strong,” Martin tried to comfort her. “David’s gone, but we’re still a family.”

A family?

Mary shot Hans a look filled with hatred. “He’s the one who killed David!”

Hans returned her glare with icy indifference, refusing to acknowledge her at all.

Mary turned and dropped to her knees in front of Mrs. Cooper. “Mom, we finally found David, but we can’t just let him die without answers. You have to do something.”

If Mary kept going, Mrs. Cooper might not survive this.

Mary wouldn’t let up, but Hans’s men stepped in and held her back.

With Mrs. Cooper gone, Hans lost any need for restraint.

Mary hurled curses and accusations.

Hans crouched down, locking eyes with her. “Mary, do you really want me to tear away what little dignity you have left?”

Mary’s eyes were bloodshot with fury.

“You wouldn’t dare.”

“You rescued David on purpose, didn’t you? You set the whole thing up.”

He spoke slowly and deliberately, each word making Mary’s face pale.

“After you married David, you used the company to launder money. When my parents found out, they threw you out. You couldn’t accept it, so you manipulated David, told him it was all their fault, that they were trying to strip you of your rights. Isn’t that right?”

The path David walked was tangled up with Mary—she had played a part in leading him there.
