Helene’s lips twisted into a sharper smirk the moment she realized Madeline’s name hadn’t been called. “You heard that, Ms. Monroe, right? Why do you have to make things so ugly? Wouldn’t it be easier if you just left on your own?”
Madeline just shook her head and let out a cold laugh. Watching Helene so smug actually put her in a good mood. Helene wouldn’t be smiling for much longer.
“Funny thing, my assistant’s name really is Mira.”
Helene caught Madeline’s calm, unbothered look and froze for a second. She tried to cover it up with a laugh. “Sure, keep making up stories…”
Just then, a few people hurried into the room, their footsteps breaking the tension. They stopped in their tracks, clearly confused by the scene.
“Ms. Monroe?” A lady in a business suit stepped quickly to Madeline’s side, her brow furrowed. “What’s going on?”
Madeline raised an eyebrow, a hint of a smile on her lips. “Tell them your name.”
The woman blinked, then answered confidently, “Mira.”
Mira moved to stand next to Madeline, glancing around at all the stunned faces. She looked even more confused. Was her name really that shocking?
Helene and Raine were both left stunned.
“So… she’s really the owner of Scent Trace?” someone finally whispered.
Mira turned to the person who asked. “Who, Ms. Monroe? Of course she is. She’s the boss at Scent Trace.”
The project manager and the rest of Madeline’s team stepped up behind her, all of them standing respectfully, their loyalty clear.
Helene just stood there, nails digging painfully into her palm, staring at the scene as if she couldn’t trust her own eyes. The only thing she could hear was, “Madeline is really the owner of Scent Trace.”
How was that possible?
When did Madeline get her own company?
She must have loved watching her own perfume brand crush Helene’s over and over.
Madeline! She had really underestimated her.
Somehow, Madeline always managed to surprise her.
“You knew I was looking into you from the start, didn’t you?” Helene asked, her teeth clenched.
Madeline lifted her eyebrows, not bothering to deny it. “Yeah, I knew. Not just about you digging into me, but also into my perfumer.”
Helene’s face went even paler. “You did this just to make a fool out of me, didn’t you?”
“When someone hands you a show, you might as well enjoy it. I just love the free entertainment.”
