Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 203

“Or what, you’ll show up at my office every day to make a scene? Was that Helene’s idea, or Raine’s? You’re the chairman of Monroe Corporation. Stop embarrassing yourself.”

Madeline didn’t bother arguing. She walked into the elevator, her face completely unreadable.

Drew moved to stop her, but he was too slow.

There were too many people around, and he cared too much about appearances to do anything dramatic. All he could do was storm off in frustration.

At the Fortner family home, Helene clutched her phone, her expression sharp. “Useless! If you just ask her, of course she won’t hand over the company. You need to find something to hold over her. Find a way to threaten her.”

“But Raine, we don’t have anything on her. There’s nothing we can use…” came the reply.

“Pathetic,” Helene snapped.

“Wait, Raine, my dad said he heard a kid’s voice near Madeline last night.”

“A kid’s voice?” Helene’s eyes narrowed, disbelief flickering across her face. “Are you saying Madeline has a child?”

“I’m not sure, but my dad swears he heard a young child. He’s positive.”

Raine sounded more certain by the second, then took a wild guess. “Helene, think about it. Madeline did really well for herself while she was overseas. She started a company. What if she met some man, had his kid, and now he’s the one backing her up?”

There was some logic to the theory. Raine pressed on. “Remember that day at Golden Spoon? Someone was definitely standing up for her then.”

Helene began pacing, phone in hand. The more she thought about it, the more excited she became.

“That must be it. There’s no way Madeline could build a company on her own. Someone is helping her. I want you to find out right now if this kid is real.”

If Madeline really had a child with another man, and Julian found out, he’d never forgive her. He’d file for divorce in a heartbeat.

He might even turn on her and that child, too.

Helene hurried over to her mom. “Mom, there’s a chance Madeline had a kid while she was abroad.”

“Really?”

“We’re looking into it. If it’s true, Madeline’s finished. Julian would never forgive her for having another man’s child. He’ll be disgusted.”

Courtney couldn’t hide her own smile. “This is a golden opportunity to take Madeline down. Don’t let it slip away.”

“Don’t worry, Mom. This time, I’ll make sure Madeline is out of Julian’s life forever.” Helene’s eyes flashed with determination.

The two of them shared a satisfied laugh. “By the way, you should visit Lucy at the hospital more. She’s your future mother-in-law, remember.”

At the mention of Lucy, Helene’s smile faded a little. After what happened last time, Lucy wanted nothing to do with her.

Lucy could be difficult, but Helene wasn’t the type to back down either. After getting the cold shoulder a few times, she decided she was done trying.
