Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 245

“You didn’t go home last night?”

“Just got here.” The truth was, he never left. “Go wash up and then have some breakfast.”

Madeline just stood there, staring at him like she was trying to figure out if he was real.

Julian set down what he was doing and looked back at her. “What’s wrong?”

“Oh, nothing, I just zoned out for a second.”

She climbed out of bed, slipped on her shoes, and went to wash up. When she came back, Julian had already set breakfast on the table.

“Eat up.”

“Okay.” Madeline nodded, quieter than usual. She picked up her spoon and started on her soup, but her mind was clearly somewhere else.

Julian seemed… different. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it.

He wasn’t acting like a jerk for once.

He was actually being kind. Taking care of her. Right here in this room.

She’d spent three years as his wife and never got this kind of treatment.

Why was he doing this now?

Madeline snuck a glance at him, but their eyes met. She quickly looked away and buried herself in her soup.

“Madeline.”

His voice, low and smooth, came from across the table.

“Yeah?”

“What are you doing?”

“Eating breakfast,” she said, clearing her throat. She grabbed a small donut and held it up politely. “Did you eat yet? If not, you can have some.” After all, he was the one who bought it.

Sitting there eating by herself while he watched made her feel awkward.

Julian sat down across from her, quiet as ever. “I already had breakfast.”

“Oh, okay.”

Silence.

Helene’s heart skipped. She snatched the phone from Lucy. “Julian, where are you?”

Julian glanced at the doctor who just walked in and frowned as he answered. “The hospital.”

“Are you sick? Or is someone else sick? Is it Ms. Monroe? Tell me the room number. I want to see her.” Helene’s voice was tight with worry.

A thousand thoughts raced through her head.

Ms. Monroe... that had to be Madeline.

Madeline was sick, so Julian stayed with her all night?

Was he really canceling their deal just to stand up for Madeline?

The questions spun around Helene’s mind, making her more anxious by the second. If she hadn’t been holding herself back, she might have thrown the phone across the room.

“That’s not necessary. Don’t come,” Julian said, not giving her the room number. Then he hung up.

“Julian? Julian?” Helene called his name, but all she got was the busy tone.

“He’s with Madeline. Mom, Mrs. Grayson, why is Julian with her? Did Madeline say something about us? Is that why Julian canceled the deal?” Helene’s voice was shaking as she rambled, her eyes growing red with frustration.
