Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 246

Courtney tried to calm her down, but when she turned to Lucy, her voice was sharp and impatient. “This is definitely Madeline’s fault. Lucy, you can’t just let her hang around Julian anymore. He’s not even thinking straight these days.”

Lucy’s eyes went cold as she stared at Courtney. “So you’re saying my son is so clueless he lets a woman control his thoughts?”

There was no way Lucy would let anyone talk about her son like that. He was her pride, her joy.

Courtney caught herself, realizing she had gone too far. She quickly backtracked, “No, Lucy, I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just, Madeline is nothing but trouble. She’s got bad intentions. She needs to stay far away from Julian.”

Lucy shot her a look, annoyed, then finally smoothed out her expression. “Helene, tell me what happened last night.”

Suddenly put on the spot, Helene felt a pang of guilt. She gripped her dress, searching for words, then explained the events of the night to Lucy.

Of course, she made everything sound like it was Raine’s fault, leaving herself out of it completely. She even made herself look like she’d been tricked too.

But Lucy wasn’t stupid.

If things were really as innocent as Helene said, why would Julian be so angry with the Fortner family?

Helene’s story, paired with Julian’s reaction, just made Julian seem unreasonable.

Lucy gave a short, dry laugh. “You both need to stop messing with Madeline. Can’t you just wait a few months and be happy as the bride? Isn’t that enough?”

She looked right at Helene. “You know Madeline still means a lot to Julian, yet you keep pushing her buttons and making him mad. What are you hoping to get out of all this?”

“It’s not like that, Mrs. Grayson,” Helene blurted out, flustered. “You saw it yourself. They haven’t officially divorced yet. Madeline keeps hanging around Julian, and she’s even using the kid to get close to him. I’m scared he’ll go back to her.”

Just hearing about it made Lucy start to feel a headache.

Madeline’s fever was gone. After breakfast, she wanted to check out of the hospital, but Julian insisted she stay a bit longer. The doctor seemed to take his side, refusing to let her leave.

Madeline felt drained anyway, so she decided staying until noon wouldn’t hurt.

She borrowed a phone charger from the nurse. The second her phone powered up, it started buzzing nonstop with new messages.

There were notes from her kids, from Casey, even from Brenda. Madeline curled up with her phone and started replying one by one.

Brenda, the moment she found out Madeline was in the hospital, skipped the texting and called right away. “What happened? Why are you in the hospital? I couldn’t reach you all night. For a second, I thought Mr. Grayson had shown up at your place again to drag you into bed. I was about to call the cops if you didn’t pick up soon!”
