“Madeline, let me ask you something. Do you know anything about Julian canceling the partnership with the Fortner Group?” Lucy’s voice was much softer than Courtney’s or Helene’s. She sounded almost gentle.

“I do.”

Madeline had overheard Julian talking about it on a call, so she just told the truth.

Courtney scoffed. “See? I told you she’s the one who pushed Julian into ending things with us. Such a manipulator!”

Lucy frowned and shot Courtney a cold look, clear annoyance flickering in her sharp eyes.

“Manipulated? Mrs. Fortner, you give me way too much credit. Do you honestly think Julian is that dumb? That a decision this big could come from me whispering in his ear?”
