Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 258

The air felt heavy, like things could go south at any second. Josh shot Brady a look, hoping he’d pick up on it. Brady jumped in with a nervous laugh. “Come on, we can’t keep calling you Ms. Monroe. That just sounds awkward.”

“Yeah, totally,” Josh chimed in.

“Dr. Monroe works,” Madeline replied, glancing up at them. She didn’t even notice the man on the sofa, whose face was so dark it looked like a storm cloud.

Josh forced a smile, biting back a curse. What was wrong with him, bringing this up?

“Madeline. Just Madeline is fine, right?” he blurted out, trying to backtrack.

Julian and Madeline. That didn’t sound bad at all.

“Whatever.” As long as they didn’t call her ‘missus,’ she really didn’t care.

Julian’s voice cut through the room. “You two. Out.”

Josh and Brady glanced at Julian, who’s sitting on that black leather sofa like it was a throne made of bones. He looked every bit the villain, cold and dangerous.

“Alright, we’re going,” Josh said quickly. Truthfully, he wanted to drag Brady back to watch the drama unfold, but staying alive felt more important. They slipped out, leaving the room silent and thick with tension.

Madeline calmly set her tools on the table in front of Julian. Since he was leaning back with his eyes shut, she didn’t bother asking him to lie down. She just moved behind him and started the acupuncture.

“Why do you care?” Madeline shot back. “That has nothing to do with Helene.”

“It matters,” Julian replied, like it was nothing. “You hit her.”

So he really was here to play Helene’s knight in shining armor.

Madeline let out a quiet sigh. “What now? Are you going to make me stand there and let her hit me back?”

Her fingers gripped the last silver needle tight. If Julian actually expected her to let Helene take a shot at her, she was ready to stab him right then and there. She’d just finished patching him up, and now he wanted her to take a hit for the girl he actually cared about. No one threw her under the bus this fast.
