Why didn’t he even bother to ask why she’d hit Helene? Or who’d started the whole thing?
Julian let out a cold laugh. He was clearly annoyed that Madeline hadn’t answered his question and shot back, “Shouldn’t you?”
Madeline’s hand froze for just a second. Something darkened in her eyes, but she quickly covered it with a soft laugh. “Alright.”
Julian’s eyes flashed with something icy. He sneered, lips barely moving. “Then get to it.”
Madeline packed up her needles and left the room without looking back.
Julian stood up, jaw tight. Suddenly, his knee went numb and he dropped hard to the ground, one knee hitting the floor. He grunted as a wave of tingling weakness rushed over his hands, making them useless. He couldn’t move an inch.
Hearing the noise, Madeline glanced over her shoulder and saw Julian’s face, stormy and furious. She couldn’t help but smirk.
That’s what he got for being so ungrateful.
If he thought she’d just let Helene slap her back, he was dreaming.
Julian gritted his teeth and growled out her name, every syllable like a threat. “Madeline. Monroe.”
Madeline strolled back, crouched in front of him, and gave his head a couple of light pats like she was calming a puppy. “I’m here. Why are you calling me?”
Julian’s eyes were wild with anger. He looked like he wanted to throttle her, but his hands wouldn’t move. All he could do was glare and spit out, “Just wait. I’m going to kill you.”
Madeline grinned, clearly loving every second of his helpless fury. “Sure, sure. Say that again after you can actually stand up.”
