Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 261

Julian pressed his lips into a hard line, his whole face shadowed. The chill coming off him was so intense that even Lucy shrank back a little.

“Julian? You…” Lucy started, but Julian was already striding over to Madeline. He grabbed her by the arm and marched her outside without a word.

“Julian? Julian!” Lucy’s voice rose, her face twisting in anger.

Helene frowned, her brows knitting together. “Mrs. Grayson, I’ll go after him.”

She barely took a step before Josh stood up and blocked her path, his tone light and teasing. “Let’s give them a minute. They clearly need to talk.”

Helene glared at Josh, frustration burning in her eyes, but he just gave her a lazy shrug and didn’t budge.

“Let go, Julian!” Madeline protested as he pulled her along. He was moving so quickly that she had to stumble to keep up, looking a little lost and more than a little helpless.

In one swift motion, Julian shoved her against the side of a nearby car.

Madeline stared straight into his eyes, and all she saw was pure, barely-contained rage.

He grabbed her by the throat, his voice low and rough. “Madeline, I swear, you make me want to strangle you.”

His grip was tight, getting tighter, and Madeline felt her breath catch in her chest. Still, she glared back at him, refusing to back down. “This isn’t the first time you’ve wanted to… cough…”

Julian closed his eyes and tried to rein himself in. “You really want this divorce that much?”

“Yes.” Madeline didn’t hesitate for a second.

Julian felt like he was about to explode. He had no idea what he’d done in a past life to end up with her.

“Fine,” he said, his voice flat and cold. “Tomorrow morning, nine o’clock. City Hall. Have it your way.”

He dropped his hand and Madeline sucked in a few desperate breaths, her head spinning.

Julian didn’t say another word. He just turned and walked away.

A breeze swept by, rustling the leaves overhead. In a blink, everything went still again.

What was it about Madeline that could wind Julian up like that every single time?

The next morning at nine, Madeline showed up right on time at City Hall. Julian wasn’t there yet, so she waited by the door.

On the curb nearby, a Rolls-Royce had been parked for who knows how long. The window was rolled down, and inside sat Julian, looking striking as always, but with a face like a thunderstorm. His eyes were fixed on Madeline standing at the entrance, his expression impossible to read.

Today, Madeline wore a fitted dress and a light trench coat, her face calm and poised, a little distant but still striking.

She kept checking her watch, looking a little impatient. Before long, Julian’s phone buzzed with a message from her.

In the front seat, Miles finally spoke up, breaking the silence. “Boss, you have a ten o’clock meeting with Mr. Pierce. Should I call and cancel?”

Miles could tell Julian really didn’t want this divorce.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have shown up at eight and just sat there for an hour and a half, unable to make a move.
