Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 269

Julian stepped out and froze at the sight in front of him. Helene was thrashing in the water, clearly in trouble, but Madeline was nowhere to be seen.

A surge of panic hit him. He didn’t even bother taking off his jacket. Without hesitation, he dove straight into the pool.

He was about to start searching for Madeline when Helene’s desperate cries stopped him. “Julian, help me! Please… glug… cough… help…”

Her words broke into bubbles, popping in the water with each gasp. It looked scarily real, like she was actually drowning.

“Help… glug…” she managed again.

Just then, Madeline’s head broke through the surface.

Julian swam toward her, but something made him pause. He remembered Madeline was an amazing swimmer. She’d once messed with him in the ocean and even saved Brenda herself. With skills like that, she didn’t need him.

Meanwhile, Helene’s voice was getting weaker. She was the one in real danger.

Julian hesitated just for a moment, then turned and reached for Helene, grabbing her as she flailed.

Helene clung to his arm, coughing and gasping for breath.

To make her act believable, Helene had forced herself underwater and swallowed some water. Now, soaked and shivering, she looked truly miserable. No one would think she was faking it.

“Julian… cough, cough…”

He started to move, but Helene noticed and clung to him even harder. “Julian, don’t leave me. I’m scared.”

Her voice trembled, thick with tears and fear. No one would ever guess she was putting on a show.

Suddenly, someone in the crowd yelled, their voice tight with worry. “Can the other girl swim? She hasn’t come up yet! Someone help her, now!”

“I can’t swim. Is there anyone who can? Please, someone get in there!” another voice called out.

Julian’s heart twisted painfully.

Madeline still hadn’t surfaced.
