Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 279

For a split second, Madeline felt cold all over, like someone had poured ice water down her back.

Who picked up that call? Was it Julian?

Her heart raced with panic. She quickly called Noah back. The phone rang and rang, each second stretching forever before someone finally answered.

“Noah?”

“Mommy.” The relief in Noah’s voice was clear. “I tried to call you earlier. Daddy answered instead.”

Madeline felt dread settle in her chest. Julian must have found out about the kid.

Trying to keep her voice steady, she asked, “What did he say to you?”

“He didn’t say anything.”

This was bad. Julian had always been suspicious. Now he probably knew everything.

Madeline rubbed her temples, trying to think. “Okay. I got it. Noah, go to bed now.”

“Mommy… I’m sorry…” Noah’s voice was small. “Did I make trouble for you?”

“No, absolutely not. It’s not your fault. I will take care of it, I promise. Don’t worry, just try to get some sleep.” She stayed on the line for a little longer, soothing him until he finally hung up.

Once the call ended, Madeline paced her room, nerves stretched tight.

If Julian knew the truth, things could get complicated fast. He was not the kind of man to forgive being lied to.
