Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 282

If he expected her to apologize, he’s gonna be so disappointed. Madeline would never, ever say sorry to Helene.

“No, Ms. Monroe doesn’t need to apologize to me.” Helene had been hovering outside the door, listening for ages, and finally found her chance to jump in.

She came in unsteadily, standing in front of both of them with tears glimmering in her eyes. “She doesn’t owe me anything. It was my fault. I’d had too much to drink, I got emotional, and that’s what set everything off. It wasn’t her doing.”

Madeline watched her with a small smile. Helene really was quick. The moment Madeline mentioned the pool incident, Helene blamed it all on drinking and being emotional. Who could argue with that? It was the perfect excuse.

“Julian, please don’t blame Ms. Monroe.”

Every time she said it, it sounded like everything was Madeline's fault. Helene was acting like the gracious one, forgiving her as if she were some kind of saint.

Madeline didn’t bother to play along. “I’m tired. If you want to keep up this little performance, take it somewhere else.”

She was done. That was her cue for them to leave.

Julian gave Madeline a long, unreadable look. His handsome face was icy. He didn’t say a word. He just got up and walked out.

When Julian left, Helene obviously wasn’t going to stick around. She shot Madeline a resentful glance before following him.

“Julian, tonight…”

Julian barely looked at her. “Get some rest,” he said, and all she got was the view of his back as he walked away.

Helene bit her lip, glanced at Madeline’s closed door, then quietly went back to her own room.

The next morning, Madeline had just finished getting her things together when someone rang the doorbell. She frowned, walked over, and opened the door. Julian was standing there. He looked as tall and cold as ever, his face completely blank.

“Let’s go.”

It was only seven in the morning. Did he really see this as some kind of emergency?

“Julian, do I have a terminal illness or something? Is that why you’re so obsessed with me right now?”

“Are you coming or not?”

Madeline shut the door firmly in his face. Julian’s expression turned stormy as he glared at the door, like he was seconds away from ripping it off its hinges.

Miles stood quietly to the side, shaking his head. He really wanted to tell Julian that this was not how you win a girl’s heart.

Two minutes later, Madeline came back out, dressed in a dusty rose pantsuit with the jacket open and a white camisole underneath. Her long hair was pulled back in a low ponytail.

Julian’s eyes lit up when he saw her. She looked sharp and effortless in that outfit. It suited her perfectly.

“Miles, did you pick out these clothes?” Madeline asked suddenly.

Miles nodded. “Yeah, I did.”

Madeline smiled, clearly pleased. “Nice taste.”

Julian’s face immediately darkened. Miles could sense trouble. Sure, he’d bought the clothes, but he’d only followed Julian’s instructions. Now it looked like he was getting all the credit.

Madeline pulled out her wallet and slipped a card into Miles’s hand. “This is for the clothes.”
