Twin Cupids at Work: Daddy, Come Home! novel Chapter 284

The doctor paused, taking in what Madeline meant. “You don’t want the man outside to know you only have one kidney?”

Madeline nodded. “He doesn’t need to know.”

What would be the point in telling him? To make him feel guilty? Then they’d just stay tangled up with Helene between them, going in circles forever. It was pointless. She was tired of it. She’d rather he stayed in the dark and just let her go.

The doctor saw she wasn’t going to back down, so she nodded. “Alright. I understand.”

Just then, Julian walked in. His voice was as cool as ever. “How is she?”

The doctor repeated exactly what Madeline had told her to say.

Julian didn’t look convinced. “Everything’s normal?”

“Yes.”

If everything was fine, why had last night’s doctor said something was off about her body?

Julian frowned. Madeline raised her eyebrows, almost teasing. “What? Are you upset my health is actually good?”

Julian glanced at her, suspicion flickering in his eyes. He couldn’t shake the feeling she was hiding something, just like she had with the child.

He didn’t say anything, only pressed his lips together.

“Let’s go.” Madeline grabbed her test results and headed out.

As soon as they left, Helene, who’d been lurking all morning in a baseball cap and mask, slipped into the exam room. “Doctor, the lady who was just here… what’s her condition?”

The doctor eyed Helene’s getup, instantly on alert. “Do you know her?”

Helene nodded. “We’re good friends.”

The doctor wasn’t sure if Madeline wanted her secret out, so they just kept it simple. “She’s healthy. All her tests came back fine.”

“All normal?” Helene echoed, sounding as surprised as Julian had.

The doctor found it odd everyone seemed so shocked by good health. Wasn’t that a good thing? “Yes,” they replied, a little impatient now.
