Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 340

Helene’s eyes went wide, her voice rising in panic. “Raine, why are you staring at me? When did I ever tell you to do something like this?”

She narrowed her eyes, her look sharp and threatening.

Raine immediately dropped her gaze, her whole body tense with fear.

Lucy stared, completely stunned. “Helene, was it really you?”

“No, no, Mrs. Grayson, I swear, I didn’t. I didn’t do anything. I don’t even know what’s going on. How could it be me…”

Madeline stepped forward and grabbed Raine by the collar, her tone fierce. “Was it her?”

“No... no…” Raine shook her head again and again. She couldn’t admit it. Helene had already made it clear what would happen if she did. If she ever turned on Helene, the whole Monroe family would go down with her and she’d lose everything. She couldn’t. She just couldn’t.

“It wasn’t her, really. I was just… looking at her because I wanted Helene to help me. That’s all, I promise. It wasn’t her…”

“Raine, I’m warning you, think before you say another word. This is too much for you to handle alone.”

Raine was shaking from head to toe. When she met Madeline’s cold, pressing glare, the trembling only got worse.

After a moment’s hesitation, Raine remembered Helene’s warnings and the plan Helene gave her to protect herself. She clenched her jaw and forced herself to speak. “It was… it was all me. I hate you, Madeline. I couldn’t get to you any other way, so I went after your child. That’s the truth. No one else was involved.”

“Then tell me,” Madeline pressed, her voice icy. “How did you find those killers? How did you know exactly when to intercept the Grayson family’s car? And how did you know which room in the house was off-limits?”

“I…” Raine froze. She couldn’t answer. She was just the scapegoat Helene had pushed forward, nothing more. There was no way she could know any of those things. She didn’t. Not a single one.

“Say something,” Madeline snapped.

Raine didn’t know the Grayson family like Helene did. There was no way Raine could have planned all the things Madeline mentioned, but Helene could. Anything Raine did would have only been at Helene’s direction.

If she still believed Helene now, she’d be a fool.

“Mrs. Grayson…”

“Don’t touch me! I can’t believe how cruel you are. You left the child in that study on purpose, just to set Julian up. How could you? And I actually felt sorry for you. You deserve everything that’s coming to you.”

Lucy glared at Helene, her anger burning in her eyes.

Helene kept trying to explain herself, her voice cracking as she pleaded, but nobody was listening anymore.

“Mrs. Grayson, please, there’s no proof. Just believe me, please, just one more time…”
