Madeline arched a brow. “Knock yourself out. I’m not really hungry.”
Miles gave her a patient smile. “Ms. Monroe, I already had breakfast. I bought this just for you. It would be a shame to let it go to waste. Or you could wait for Mr. Grayson to join you.”
“Like I’d ever eat with him.” Madeline yanked out a chair, sat down, and pulled a bowl of soup in front of her. She started eating fast, spoon after spoon, determined.
Miles could only shake his head with a helpless grin.
Julian must really rub her the wrong way. It was almost funny how talking about him suddenly sparked her appetite.
A moment later, Julian came out of the bathroom, fussing with a shirt that already looked perfect.
Head to toe in a suit, he looked cool and confident, like he belonged in a magazine ad.
Madeline didn’t even spare him a glance. She finished her soup in record time. The second Julian sat down, she stood up.
Julian’s jaw clenched. “Do you really hate being around me that much?”
“Isn’t it obvious?”
“If you can’t stand me, why did you save my life last night?”
She shrugged. “What was I supposed to do? If you died in my apartment, I’d have to move. Not worth the hassle.”
Miles nearly choked on air.
Julian looked like he might actually flip the table. Madeline definitely had a talent for getting under his skin.
She checked her watch. “It’s five-forty. By five-fifty, I want you out.”
“Ten minutes isn’t enough to finish breakfast.”
“That’s your problem.” Madeline crossed her arms, eyes cool. “Every extra minute costs a million. Up to you.”
Ten million for ten minutes. If he was willing to pay, she was willing to collect.
Julian watched as Madeline calmly set a twenty-minute timer on her phone.
He was so riled up it looked like he might burst.
He didn’t touch his fork. Instead, he stared at her and spoke, voice low. “You’ll keep treating me. From now on.”
Madeline’s eyes flickered. If she kept treating him, she’d have access to the Grayson estate. Maybe she’d see that child.
She opened her mouth to reply.
Julian seemed to read her mind. His voice was flat. “I’ll come here instead.”
Madeline’s expression shifted a little. She cracked a sly smile. “Sure. One million a minute. If it’s a session like last night, five hours comes to three hundred million.”
