Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 129

After finishing breakfast, Amber headed to school.

Just as she walked out of the alley, Grace, who was opening the diner, called out to her. "Amber, with your dad going to work today, is Xanthe going to be able to handle the catering business all by herself?"

Grace was gloating. Usually, Amber would turn and greet her every morning on her way to school. Today, she hadn't said a word and just kept walking. Annoyed, Grace had purposely stopped her.

Amber turned around, a bright, sunny smile playing on her lips. "Thanks for your concern, Grace. But Xanthe will be absolutely fine. She handles things on her own. She’s totally independent and does everything herself. She isn't quite as lucky as you—having a diner but relying on someone else to do all the heavy lifting and prep work."

"But that's normal. She doesn't have a storefront, so if she's selling lunches, who else is she going to rely on but herself?"

Grace's face instantly contorted in anger, but she forced a tight smile. "Amber, I know you feel bad for your dad, but this is how we've done things for twelve years. I even told him to stop coming, but he insisted. He said he genuinely wants to build a life with me."

"You're young, Amber, and you're taking your anger over Lucian and Joanne out on me. I don't blame you. But my advice? Focus on yourself. You're just a kid; it's best you stay out of adult matters. The exams are coming up. Don't let this ruin your grades, or your dad will blame himself. You might not care, but I would feel terrible for him."

Amber laughed lightly. "You're absolutely right, Grace. So, from now on, I'm staying out of it. Whatever you and Dad decide to do is entirely between you two. I just hope you genuinely care for him, rather than just paying lip service."

"Well, I'm going to be late, so I can't chat. You... take care of yourself!" With that, Amber turned and walked away.

Grace's eyes widened in fury. That wretched girl telling ME to take care of myself?! She's the one who needs to watch her back!

Lucian dumped you, and your dad isn't listening to you. All you have is Xanthe, and how much can she really do for you? Just wait. You'll be crying soon enough, begging me to forgive you for being such an ignorant brat.

Gritting her teeth, Grace smugly anticipated the day Amber would come crawling back to apologize.

When Amber arrived at school, Vance and Tillie—both boarding students—were waiting for her, the only day-student of the trio.

"Amber, we're here to escort you to class."

Amber's mouth twitched. "Is all this fanfare really necessary?"

Tillie linked arms with her. "Absolutely."

Vance wanted to link arms too, but he settled for handing her an iced latte. "Princess, how is our service today?"

Amber nodded. "Flawless. I don't know what I did to deserve this."

She reached for the latte, but Vance pulled it back. "I'll carry it for you. It adds to the aristocratic vibe."
