Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 163

Arthur had two main reasons for returning to the hospital room.

First, Amber had missed her afternoon exam. If he didn't come back to the hospital, she would definitely miss her tests tomorrow as well. Second, as devastated as he was, he simply wasn't the kind of man to leave someone stranded when they needed help.

But after crying out his frustrations on the lawn and making his way back, he never expected to see Grace.

He had felt a pang of sympathy when he saw the bruises on her face. He was just about to step forward and ask what happened—especially terrified that she had gotten hurt right after he hung up on her. He had been drowning in self-blame, only to overhear her conversation with Lucian.

She had called him a pushover. She had ordered Lucian to find a way to make sure he didn't end up like Amber and abandon his "duties" to them.

Over the past twelve years, Arthur knew very well that Grace didn't actually love him. It was just that he was highly convenient—free labor who never asked for much.

During his seven-day pact with Amber, she had told him: 'Just watch. See if she continues to throw tantrums, or if she finally brings up marriage.' Now, Arthur didn't even need to wonder. Yes, he cherished the twelve years they had spent together, but how many times could a man slam his head against a brick wall before he finally stopped?

Regardless of whatever deal Amber had with Xanthe, Grace contacting the Sutton family to drag Xanthe back was unforgivable.

She had played with a woman's life.

Lucian frowned. He really should have checked his horoscope before leaving the house today.

Not only had his mother been beaten up and assigned the same room as Xanthe, but her private conversation had been overheard by Amber, Xanthe, and now Arthur.

Grace's face turned deathly pale. Cold sweat beaded on her forehead.

In front of Arthur, she had always maintained the persona of a sweet, long-suffering woman who genuinely wanted to build a life with him. Now, she had just referred to him as a servant meant to wait on her and her son. He had to be crushed.

But she hadn't said anything untrue, and it wasn't like she had forced him to do it.

Grace wanted to maintain her dominance. She figured that even if Arthur heard her, she could blame it on the anger of being beaten after he hung up on her. She absolutely refused to bow her head.

Yet, her entire body was trembling. A chilling realization crept up her spine—this pushover was actually going to walk away.

"Arthur, you're back?"

Compared to Grace, who was trembling like a leaf while trying to look haughty, Xanthe was genuinely overjoyed to see him return.

Lucian spoke up. "Arthur, my mom—"

"She deserved it!"

Lucian had been about to defend his mother, but Arthur cut him off with three blunt, merciless words.
