Completely oblivious to how messed up it was for Sharif to make her buy her own groceries and travel to Harbor Heights to cook for him, Amber left the hospital with Vance and headed back to the neighborhood with Loretta.
Just as they walked out of the hospital, they ran straight into Lucian.
He was stepping out of a taxi, looking absolutely livid.
Naturally, Amber acted like she didn't see him, but Lucian refused to let it go. "What did you use to get Yvonne to stop pressuring you?"
Lucian blocked Amber's path. Vance immediately stepped in front of her.
Loretta rushed forward as well.
Lucian raised an eyebrow, his voice sharp and aggressive. "Amber, if I find out you were the one who sicked Yvonne on Joanne, you know what the consequences will be."
Vance and Loretta had no idea what Lucian was talking about, but Amber understood perfectly.
"Lucian, what makes you so sure that I was the one who pressured Yvonne into targeting Joanne? Shouldn't you be asking if your precious Joanne sought Yvonne out herself, just to stop me from beating you in the fifth mock exam?"
Lucian tried to shove Vance out of the way, but realizing he couldn't move him, he snapped, "Move, Vance. This is between her and me. Amber, you know exactly what kind of man Miles is! You sent Miles after her, didn't you? This was Yvonne's order!"
Lucian had chosen to turn back for a reason. First, he couldn't get into the exclusive estate. Even if he waited out there until dawn, Miles wasn't going to leave. It was a yacht club. In his past life, Amber had actually gifted him a yacht in that exact area. Miles taking his Joanne there meant they were getting on a boat. And what happens on those boats? Everyone knew.
Second, he didn't want to act recklessly and distrust Joanne like he had in his past life.
Joanne definitely had her reasons. That was why, the second he saw Amber, he concluded that Miles targeting Joanne had to be Amber's doing.
Because Amber hadn't been harassed by Yvonne recently.
They both knew exactly what kind of person Yvonne was. She wouldn't just stop pressuring Amber over an exam or a refused contract. Amber must have made some sort of deal with her.
Hearing this, Amber let out a cold laugh.
In her past life, Lucian must have hidden his love for Joanne so deeply that Amber had never realized what an absolute idiot he was. She had no idea what he had just witnessed regarding Miles and Joanne, nor where this accusation was coming from.
But given his frantic interrogation, Amber didn't even have to guess. Joanne had clearly been blinded by Miles' wealth and good looks and had hooked up with him.
"Lucian, before you come barking at me, you'd better have some proof. Even if you think we're past the point of needing evidence, acting like this just proves you're hopelessly stupid."
"Amber!"
"You and I both know what kind of man Miles is, but does Joanne? Do you honestly think your Joanne loves you as much as you love her?"
Lucian looked ready to strangle her. "Don't you dare insult Joanne."
Amber scoffed loudly. "Insult her? I don't need to insult her. Using the word 'insult' in the same sentence as her is an insult to the word itself."
