Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 186

Grace was pacing the hallway outside her ward when she spotted Arthur, who was arriving right on time to deliver dinner to Xanthe, just as he did every single day.

Seeing her, Arthur lowered his head and kept walking, pretending she didn't exist, until Grace called out, "Am I a ghost or something? Do you really have to pretend I'm invisible?"

Arthur stopped. He wanted to say something, but ultimately felt words were useless.

That was exactly what infuriated Grace. Before she even spoke, tears welled in her eyes. "You're really something, aren't you? You say we're done, and you just drop it. It's true what they say—when a man says it's over, it means something completely different than when a woman does."

"Arthur, let's just say I was wrong about that day, okay? Are you seriously just done with me?"

After a few days in the hospital, Grace had cooled down quite a bit. Especially after seeing Howard's overly eager, creeping behavior last night, which she found absolutely repulsive.

She only kept Howard around to piss Arthur off, but look at him—completely unfazed, letting her throw her tantrum without a single reaction.

Grace was frustrated. She had been trying to get him alone for a chat, but it was either that wretched brat Amber ruining things, or Xanthe—who not only infuriated her but also guarded Arthur like Grace was a thief.

"Arthur, give it to me straight. Do you have feelings for Xanthe? If you do, fine. I won't overthink it, and I won't pester you. If we're done, we're done. I'll never show my face in front of you again."

Arthur took a deep breath, turning to face her. "Grace, what is the point of saying all this now? Wasn't I clear enough the other day? You said it yourself..."

"I only said that because Amber pissed me off! Arthur, after twelve years together, you can't tell the difference between words spoken in anger and the truth?"

"Yes, I said those things, and I did them, but was Amber being fair? She manipulated me, and I'm her elder! Arthur, anyone would be furious in my shoes. I just said a few harsh words, and you're ready to condemn me for life?"

Grace cried pitifully, shedding tear after tear, and it genuinely hurt Arthur to see it. "Even so, you shouldn't have said those things or done what you did. Amber orchestrating things behind the scenes was wrong, but as an elder, you're holding onto a grudge against a younger generation. Do you honestly think you're in the right?"

"Grace, you say you were wrong, but tell me right now—what exactly were you wrong about? You haven't realized your actual mistake at all. You think everything is Amber's fault, but you conveniently forget that we are us, and Amber is Amber."

"As long as you and I are on the same page, Amber is my daughter. Even if she plays dirty, she does it for my own good as her father. She just made me see clearly everything you are. Where is she wrong in that?"
