After securing the laptop, Amber took the bus back to school.
Julian had offered to have a driver drop her off, but Amber insisted that everything remain completely normal until her final exam scores were officially released.
Julian checked with Sharif, received approval, and nodded as he watched her leave.
He was puzzled, yet deeply impressed. Thankfully, it was Amber. Anyone else who received this kind of windfall would have been parading down the street bragging to the heavens.
This year's Madison Group sponsored scholar was destined to make serious waves in the business world.
Meanwhile, Lucian was forcing down a bowl of instant ramen. This was the very first time in his life—or rather, the first time across both of his lifetimes—that he had ever touched such garbage food.
In his past life, because his mother had Arthur completely wrapped around her finger, Lucian never even had to eat leftovers. Either Arthur or Amber ensured that every meal was cooked fresh, sometimes even accompanied by freshly cut fruit.
With his mother in the hospital—even if she wasn't—he probably wouldn't be eating meals prepared by Arthur and Amber anytime soon.
Not that he would ever stoop to ask for them.
Noticing him clutching his stomach, Joanne rushed over, concern lacing her voice. "Lucian, are you feeling sick? You've been to the bathroom so many times already."
Lucian's stomach was incredibly fragile. Was a single bowl of instant noodles really enough to send him running to the bathroom repeatedly?
Lucian furrowed his brows, clearly miserable. "I'm fine. I think drinking that ice water earlier just upset my stomach. Joanne, let's head back to the classroom."
He desperately needed to sit down and rest.
But Joanne was worried that his condition would affect next week's Olympiad. She suggested, "If you're not feeling well, we should really go to the school nurse. Lucian, the Olympiad is on Monday. You have to take care of yourself."
Seeing her deep concern for him, a wave of warmth spread through his chest. He gently patted her hand and said with unshakeable confidence, "I'm fine, I know my limits. Don't worry so much, Joanne. I'm going to win."
Joanne's cheeks flushed slightly. "I wasn't worried about the competition, I was just..."
"I know. You're the best, Joanne." Lucian gazed deeply into her eyes, looking so profoundly in love that Joanne actually felt a twinge of guilt.
Who cared about his health? She absolutely was only worried about the competition.
