Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 46

Joanne feigned extreme shock.

But that wasn't enough. She immediately tried to drive a wedge between the friends. "Otherwise, shouldn't Tillie be the one getting it? She's your best friend, right? Tillie, why didn't Amber give you a laptop instead of Vance?"

Joanne looked incredibly smug, completely focused on mocking Amber. She failed to notice that Lucian, whom she was still supporting, had his dark, brooding eyes locked entirely onto the laptop Vance was holding.

—It was the very first laptop Amber had given him in their past life.

She had told him that while he was abroad, Madison Group might provide him with everything he needed, but she wanted to give him everything she could, too.

She had saved up her allowance and holiday money for years, refusing to buy nice food or clothes for herself, just to scrape together five thousand dollars to buy him that exact laptop.

To say Lucian hadn't been moved at all would be a lie, but he hadn't been overwhelmingly touched, either. He just couldn't believe his eyes—Amber was actually giving the laptop she bought for him to Vance Leavitt!?

Was she actively trying to torture him?!

She was absolutely doing this on purpose!

Of all the laptops on the market, why did she have to buy that exact model? He could despise her all he wanted, but she had absolutely no right to humiliate him like this! Who did she think she was?!

Tillie was deeply annoyed by Joanne's instigating, but before she could snap back, Amber swallowed her bite of chicken and spoke up smoothly, "Tillie's gift is arriving next Monday. You can drop the cheap high school drama, Joanne. Vance and Tillie are both my friends. I won a grand prize laptop in a giveaway today, so what's wrong with giving my old one to Vance? What, are you jealous? Why don't you have Lucian steal from his mommy's credit card again to buy you one? Oh wait, he probably doesn't have access to that card anymore, does he?"

Amber smiled sweetly, the expression utterly charming, while Joanne and Lucian's faces drained of color.

"Amber!"

Lucian was furious, which instantly triggered another violent cramp in his stomach. He suddenly felt the urgent need for the bathroom again.

"Don't accuse me of starting drama, Amber. I was just curious. But did you say you won a grand prize laptop? Is it supposedly even better than the one you just gave Vance? Wow, Vance, looks like you're just taking Amber's hand-me-downs." Joanne sneered.

Trying to mock her? If they wanted to play that game, she could dish it right back.

Before Vance could say a word, Amber cut in, "You nailed it, Joanne. Vance, do me a favor and pull up the price tag you just scanned on your phone so Joanne can broaden her horizons. Tillie, could you take out the laptop I just won? Since Joanne is so green with envy, it would be rude not to show her."

Because her hands were greasy from the chicken, and she still had the ribs and braised pork Tillie had bought her waiting in the lunchbox, Amber didn't want to get her hands dirty. She just stood there, blatantly showing off, while Joanne and Lucian stared with wide eyes.

Joanne refused to believe it. Amber won a prize? What kind of prize could it possibly be? She wasn't an idiot; whenever stores held "giveaways," the grand prizes were always cheap knockoffs used to clear out inventory.
