Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 67

After finding nobody at Joanne's place, Grace headed straight to Arthur's apartment. Amber was just clearing the table.

Arthur had already been convinced by his daughter and had taken Xanthe to see Mrs. Zeller about renting the room. He also planned to visit a coworker who could weld a food cart for them.

Finding Arthur absent, Grace was surprised, then annoyed, and finally furious.

"Amber, did you guys already eat dinner?"

Grace stared at the three sets of used bowls and leftover food on the small dining table. Her mouth twisted in rage. She had come here expecting to score a free meal. Why did Arthur eat so early today?!

She had timed this perfectly. And where did that hussy go? Had Arthur already sent her packing?

If so, eating early made sense.

But how could they not leave any food for her and Lucian? Neither of them had eaten yet.

Amber knew exactly why Grace was here. As soon as her dad and Xanthe left, she purposely packed away the good leftovers into the fridge, timing it so Grace would only see the scraps when she walked in.

"Yeah, we did. Are you here for the diner keys, Grace?" Amber asked. Fully prepared, she picked up the keys from the coffee table and handed them to Grace along with three itemized receipts. "Here you go. These are the records for the supplies my dad bought and the daily revenue from the days you were in the hospital. The calculator is right there. Once you verify everything, you can settle up my dad's wages for running the shop."

"Oh, right. He also delivered lunch and dinner to you for three days straight, but we'll let that slide. After all, we're neighbors. But business is business, right?"

Amber stood there, looking completely ready to collect a debt.

Grace's eyes nearly bulged out of her head. "Amber..."

"You need to pay for the supplies, don't you? My dad took time off his construction job to run your shop. If we calculate his daily wage at around a hundred dollars, that's three hundred for three days. With the supply costs and his labor, twelve hundred dollars is perfectly reasonable, wouldn't you say?"
