Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 69

Arthur and Xanthe finally returned to the apartment at 11:30 PM.

Grace had given up waiting. Before she left, however, her eyes nearly popped out of her head when she saw a brand new laptop sitting on Amber's desk.

Grace didn't know much about computers, but she knew an expensive piece of tech when she saw it. "Amber, when did you get a laptop?"

Wouldn't that laptop be perfect for her Lucian?

Knowing exactly how greedy Grace was, Amber didn't try to hide it. Instead, she happily flaunted it. "Oh, this? It's easily five figures. I could never afford it; I won it in a giveaway!" Amber raised her voice slightly. "Didn't Lucian tell you? Don't be too jealous now, Grace."

Grace's face changed instantly. "Five figures? You won it?"

"Yep, just the day before yesterday. I even took it to school, all my classmates were so happy for me." Amber flashed a stunning smile.

Grace was boiling with jealousy. That idiot Lucian! Amber won an insanely expensive laptop, and he still refused to swallow his pride? Five figures! Why was he turning his back on free money?

"You're so lucky. Did your dad say anything about it?" Like, giving it to her son to use? Her son was the top student in his grade. A luxury laptop was perfectly suited for a genius heading to a prestigious university abroad.

"Not much. My dad just told me to keep it hidden so you wouldn't see it."

Grace was speechless.

*You sneaky bastard, Arthur! You were hiding this from me?!* She spat in her mind. *Whatever, it's just a laptop! Who cares! Once the Olympiad is over and Lucian brings home that fifty thousand dollars, I'll show them!*

Fuming, Grace pushed herself off the sofa. "Oh no, Lucian hasn't had dinner yet. Did he order takeout again?!"

As Grace stormed toward the door, Amber called out, "You haven't settled the bill yet! Aren't you going to wait for my dad?"

Grace glared fiercely at her. "I'll settle it with him tomorrow. You know where I live and where my diner is. Do you think I'm going to run away?"

"If you aren't running, why is twelve hundred dollars such a big deal? You want to settle it with my dad? Are you just going to delay it and refuse to pay like always? Times have changed, Grace. Put aside the fact that Lucian and I are never getting back together—you and my dad are over, too. What happens if you get lucky and find some rich guy, and my dad uses this to ruin your reputation?"

"Being greedy is one thing, but losing everything over a few bucks is just stupid. Think about your future sugar daddy. He might think you're perfect, but if he finds out you spent years stringing my dad along for free labor, wouldn't he be disgusted?"

Grace screamed in fury, "I've seen your true colors today, Amber! Fine, twelve hundred dollars? I'll pay it!"

She yanked a wad of cash from her pocket. This was the money Arthur had collected from the diner these past few days that hadn't been paid via digital transfer.
