Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 94

Loretta, following Amber's instructions, had collected the caregiving money from Joanne and packed up overnight for a new gig in the next town.

Her husband had lucked out, saying his construction site urgently needed a woman who could cook and do laundry. The couple packed their bags and left immediately.

Her story about attending her great-uncle's funeral was naturally a complete lie.

Today, Loretta and her husband had just returned from the site to their temporary housing when her phone rang.

She told her husband to go to sleep. Having zero interest in her secretive behavior, he simply pulled the covers up and laid down.

Remembering Amber's warning, Loretta found a quiet spot the second her phone rang. Before she could even belt out an enthusiastic, "Arthur..." she heard Lucian's voice on the line.

"Loretta, it's Lucian. My mom told me about how hard you worked massaging her at the hospital, and how you helped her get discharged early. I just wanted to call and say thank you. My mom didn't have your number, so I used Arthur's phone."

"Where are you right now? Can you let me know? Or maybe I could add you with my mom's phone? With my competitions lately and her being in the hospital, I haven't been able to fulfill my duties as a son. I really appreciate what you did, and I want to offer a little token of my gratitude—something substantial. It's nothing crazy, but do you want me to just transfer it to you, or wait until you're back and drop a gift off at your place?"

Hearing this, Amber let out a mocking laugh. "Loretta, don't listen to him beat around the bush. What he really wants to ask is..."

The rest of her words were cut off as Lucian clamped his hand over the receiver, his eyes venomous. "I thought you weren't afraid? I made the call, which means I decide how the questions are asked. Trying to feed her lines? Do you think I'm stupid?"

He wasn't stupid. Whatever incentive Amber had offered Loretta, he could match it.

The woman was a greedy opportunist. As long as she played ball, he could give her far more than Amber ever could.

Amber chuckled in exasperation. "Fine, interrogate her however you want. Since you insist on nailing your own coffin shut before getting on your knees, go right ahead. Dad, let's step back a bit so we don't get hit by his spit. Disgusting."

She took the lead, stepping back three paces. Lucian ignored her and resumed speaking into the phone.

Loretta thought to herself, He must know what Amber asked me to do. Ha, little brat. He thinks he can play mind games and trap me?
