Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 100

Clara whipped around, with her face ghostly pale from fright.

“Emmett! What on earth are you doing here?”

Wasn't he supposed to be back home?

How did he know she was here?

And Alex!

Alex was still inside!

“Did I interrupt something?” asked Emmett.

It was impossible to tell what was going on in his mind.

All she knew was that he certainly wasn't pleased.

Elio finally caught on, giving Clara a glance. “You know Emmett?”

“She’s my wife.”

"Wife?!" Elio was stunned and completely lost for words.

With a somewhat awkward laugh, Clara said, “I'm just pretending to be his wife for now! Elio, I'll explain everything later!”

She quickly winked at Elio, signaling him to get Alex out of there.

Elio instantly understood her meaning.

“Oh, I see! Well, you two must have some important stuff to talk about. I'll leave you to it. The hospital needs me anyway.”

Just as Elio was about to leave, Emmett suddenly grabbed his arm.

Clara suddenly remembered the text she sent to Aiden.

Did Aiden rat her out?

No way, it must be… “Did you go through Aiden’s phone? Emmett, that's a total invasion of his privacy!”

“We live together, so why would I need to snoop? Don't change the subject, and tell me straight, were you planning to be with this guy?”

Clara immediately denied it, “No, I admit that I had considered being with him. Given my situation, it's good enough just having someone like me. If someone wanted to marry me, that would be even better; I wouldn't have any reason to refuse! But after some thought, I decided against it. I have a child, and no family would want to accept someone like me!”

“You're married! And you're considering marrying another man?!”

“I’m just planning for my future! After all, our marriage isn't real. Once you don't need me anymore, I'll just have to return to my old life, right? Besides... I was just thinking about it!”

Clara eventually gave up on the idea! Why was Emmett still so pissed?
