"Absolutely not. This isn't up for discussion."

Emmett didn't have the guts to let her stay here any longer. Was he really going to put up with her betrayal?

"Mr. Melendez..."

"I'm giving you one day. By tomorrow, you have to leave with me." He couldn't wait any longer.

"What? But... I still have things to sort out here! My son is injured; I need to be with him, otherwise, I’d be a lousy Mom! I understand I'm your secretary and there's a contract between us, but I have to put my son first, right, Mr. Melendez?"

"Using your child as an excuse again? I told you to take the kid with us, but you refused. So, you have no choice but to leave with me right now!"

He had already seen what this woman was doing with another man. If he hadn't shown up in time, who knows what would've happened?

"No way! My son can't go with you!” Clara blurted out almost subconsciously.

The words had barely left her mouth when she froze.

Damn, did she overreact? She didn't arouse his suspicion, did she?

Sure enough, Emmett turned serious, looking into her eyes, "Why? You seem to care a lot about me seeing your son."

"I…I told you!" Clara laughed awkwardly, "He's very introverted, probably a bit autistic, and especially afraid of strangers!"

"With your personality, how could you raise an autistic son?" Emmett was skeptical.

Swallowing hard, Clara replied, "Well... I'm not around him often; I have to work to support him, so he might... lack some maternal love..."

"I’ll find the best doctor for your son."

Emmett had plenty of money.

Whether it was finding a doctor to treat autism or booking an entire hospital for her son, it was all possible.

Hearing this, Clara knew she couldn't keep deceiving him. So, she quickly changed the topic, "Well, I guess I should go back with you then!"

"Where's my mom?"

"She's got some stuff to deal with outside, and you're coming with me for now!" Elio grabbed Alex's hand and tried to leave.

Blinking, Alex suddenly shook off his hand.

"What happened to my mom?"

"She's run into some trouble and wants me to hide you for now. Alex, be a good boy and come with me!"

Elio was worried too. What if Emmett barged in?

If he really saw Alex, who knows what would happen?

"Hide?" Alex, being quite smart, caught on almost immediately, "Has Emmett come looking for my mom?"

Elio was a bit surprised. Even though they hadn't had any real contact, Emmett was still Alex's biological father, and hearing Alex call him by his name sounded a bit strange.
