Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 104

A few minutes later, a soft knock came at Emmett's door.

He got up to open it and saw Elio standing there, looking all tense.

“Mr. Melendez.”

“Do you know why I wanted to see you?” Emmett stepped aside to let him in.

Elio took a deep breath, trying to relax, and replied with a smile, “I have no clue. Is it about Clara?”

“Not just that.” Emmett closed the door, “Years ago, you delivered my son.”

“Really? It must've been a while back, I can't remember.” Elio laughed awkwardly, scratching his head, “I had the honor of delivering Mr. Melendez's baby. How's the little one doing now?”

“Elio!” Emmett squinted at him, “Quit playing dumb! That woman and my child, you can't possibly not know! Tell me, where they are?”

Elio's throat felt dry.

He couldn't betray Clara! Alex was her life, and he knew that very well.

Seeing Elio remain silent, Emmett said coldly, “Let me warn you, it wasn't easy for the Melendez family to get where we are today; you should know the consequences if you lie to me! Don't mess with the century-old legacy of the Melendez family.”

“Mr. Melendez, I honestly don't know! And it's been so many years that I can't remember clearly! I was called in last minute to deliver the baby and left right after! I can't remember the details. Mr. Melendez, even if you threaten me, I have genuinely forgotten!”

“Seems like you won't admit your mistake.” Emmett took out his phone and pressed a button, “Now, I will shut down a Milburn family chain hospital every five minutes.”

Hearing this, Elio immediately said, “Stop, Mr. Melendez! What are you trying to do?”

Elio was shocked, “Three days? I might not even be able to contact the people from back then!”

“That's your problem.”

“Alright, alright! Three days it is.” Elio was now trying to buy as much time as possible, urgently looking for ways to protect the Milburn family while also protecting Clara, “If there's nothing else, I'll get going! Good night, Mr. Melendez.”

Emmett glanced at Elio, “Wait! You haven't explained your relationship with Clara.”

"We're just friends now. I'm not sure what you want me to explain, Mr. Melendez."

"Just friends?" Emmett took a step forward, towering over Elio despite his tall stature, "You want more than friendship; you're trying to woo her, aren't you?"
