"Mom, as a woman, would you be happy if your mother-in-law spoke to you like that? Would you not care?"

Sophia, looking a bit uncomfortable, shifted her gaze elsewhere.

"I've said what I had to say, you're not expecting me to apologize to her, are you? I'm the elder here!" She sighed, "Besides, everything I've done is for your kids. Aiden and Alex are your flesh and blood, after all!"

"I don't need your meddling!"

Sophia shot back, her eyes flaring with anger, "Whether you want me to interfere or not is irrelevant! I'm telling you, as long as I'm alive, Aiden and Alex will not be bullied by anyone! No one can harm my grandkids, not even a bit!"

"Look at Aiden and Alex, they really like Clara! If Clara was mean to them, would they act like this? Alex might be naive, but Aiden is very smart!"

Sophia scoffed, "Who can't put on a show?! I didn't say she has been bullying them, I just took precautions! I think there's nothing wrong with that!"

With that, she marched out of the study.

Emmett, frustrated, punched the desk, his knuckles smarting red.

Not long after Sophia left, Clara walked in.

Seeing Emmett's hand, she rushed over to check, "Oh my god! What happened to your hand?"
