Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 259

"Can a chef's food ever compare to a mom's homemade meal? I just want the kids to feel the warmth of home! They've been unfortunate enough to grow up without a mother. Now that they finally have one, can't you, as their mom, cook them a meal?"

"I remember growing up eating chef-cooked meals all the time, and I turned out fine! I don't have any psychological issues."

"You..."

Seeing their argument was about to explode, Clara quickly intervened. "I think cooking could be fun; she just wants me to practice! Emmett, stop getting Mom upset; I'm okay."

"I see; now that you have Clara as a wife, you don't care about your mother anymore!"

Just as Sophia finished speaking, Patrick Melendez came downstairs. He sensed the tense atmosphere in the dining room.

"What's going on here?"

Sophia glanced at her husband but said nothing.

Clara smiled and said, "Good morning, Dad."

"Mhmm." Patrick nodded, sitting next to his wife. "Why can't you guys talk things out? Why does it always have to be so tense?"

Emmett spoke up. "Well, ask Mom why she won't leave my wife alone."
