"You're always such a ray of sunshine."
With a playful roll of her eyes, Clara Calloway replied, "Well, I reckon I'm pretty happy as it is! As long as no one bugs me or tries to steal my joy, I'm golden."
"Would you be scared to lose me?" asked Emmett Melendez, looking into her eyes.
"Absolutely!"
"Out of all the time I've known you, that's the sweetest thing you've ever said to me."
Clara just shook her head, a smile playing at her lips.
...
Once at the office, Clara had a meeting with people from the design department. Just as she stepped out of the conference room, her phone rang. It was Elio Milburn.
"I'm sick; can you come over?"
Clara was taken aback.
"You're sick? What's up? Got a cold or something?"
"Yep, and my stomach's acting up too."
Clara glanced at her watch and asked, "Which hospital are you at? I can head over right now."
"Belevolence Hospital."
"I should be there in about half an hour." Clara had a ton on her plate, but hearing that Elio was ill, she couldn't help but worry.
After all, whenever she or her kiddo was under the weather, Elio would always rush over in a heartbeat.
Clara didn't tell Emmett; she grabbed her car keys and hit the road.
"Clara, then I'll leave you two alone; call me if you need anything!"
Elio nodded, and Clara could only say, "Alright, see you later!"
Once Leah was gone, the room was left with only Elio and Clara.
"Elio, I'm confused; what are you trying to do?"
She knew Elio had a unique personality, but he had never hurt her.
"You already know!"
"I don't." Clara was at a loss for words. "Didn't I make it clear to you when I was abroad? You even wished me well, and now you've changed only a few months later? Have you changed your mind?"
Elio didn't beat around the bush: "Yes, I've changed my mind; I don't want to let you go to Emmett!"
